Description of the Topic and Case
Sexual harassment remains a central theme in legal and work settings. The legal case I
selected is Meritor Savings Bank v. Vinson (1986) because it established the baseline for the
legal definition and analysis of sexual harassment in the U.S. workplace. The case was Mechelle
Vinson, who claimed that her supervisor, Sidney Taylor, assaulted her sexually and harassed her
for several years, and the workplace became hostile.
Roles and Responsibilities of Forensic Psychology Professionals in a Sexual Harassment
Case: Forensic psychology professionals perform essential tasks in the evaluation of a victim’s
psychological state and credibility of allegations in sexual harassment cases. They interrogate the
alleged victim to understand the kind of harassment they have undergone and the effects of the
harassment on the victim, including anxiety, depression, and PTSD, among others (Murphy-
Oikonen et al.,2022). They also include conducting psychological evaluations and could utilise
objective tests to assess the victim's emotional and mental well-being.
In addition, forensic psychologists act as professional witnesses in the case; that is, they
analyse the extent of the psychological injury resulting from harassment. They could also survey
the working environment to check whether it played a role in creating the hostile environment. In
the case of Meritor Savings Bank v. Vinson, forensic psychologists would be the ones to
determine the degree of disability that harassment had on Vinson in the future.
Moreover, forensic psychologists may study the accused's behaviour and history to
estimate the probability of such actions. They assist the court in appreciating the psychosocial
aspects, thus enabling it to make balanced decisions for the parties. In conclusion, forensic
psychology specialists play a crucial role in addressing the psychological effects of sexual

legal process.
