Role of Human Resource Planning in Recruitment and Selection
The continuous process of systematic planning to achieve the maximum use of
organizational assets is known as human resource planning (HRP). In the organization's
employee recruitment and selection process, HRP plays a significant role (Mahapatro, 2021). In
the context of the recruitment and selection process, HRP has the following roles:
Talent Acquisition Strategy
HRP helps devise an effective talent acquisition and informs the organization’s hiring
strategy after identifying personnel needs. Its mission is0to determine present and forthcoming
hiring and training needs. HRP allows companies to plan to maintain a steady supply of skilled
employees (Atwood, 2020). The process is used to help companies evaluate their needs and to
prepare to meet those needs. The strategies involved determining the suitable recruitment source,
channels to utilize, and timeline for recruitment activities.
Budget Allocation
In recruitment efforts, HRP helps allocate budgets. HRP estimates the cost of screening,
hiring candidates, sourcing, and interviewing, hence effective resource allocation (Whysall et al.,
2019). It ensures that recruitment meets the organizational needs and that the entire process
remains cost-effective.
Forecasting Personnel Needs
HRP is based on the organization's growth projection, goals and expected changes in the
business field as it forecasts future personnel needs. This helps the departments of HRP find the
type and how many employees are needed (Mahapatro, 2021).
Succession Planning
HRP identify potential future vacancies in key roles to incorporate succession planning.
HRP can develop internal talent pipelines via career development initiatives and training sessions
through planning succession (Atwood, 2020). It ensures the organization has qualified candidates
internally to fill critical positions upon rising vacancies.
Enhancing Quality of New Hires and Overall Workforce Success
Effective quality of new hires and the overall workforce is key to the sustainability and
growth of the organization. HRP is fundamental in achieving this objective (Mahapatro, 2021).
Some of how organizations can enhance the quality of new hires and overall workforce success
are:
Effective Recruitment and Selection Processes
Effective recruitment and selection processes focus on targeted job analysis, which
identifies competencies, qualifications, and particular skills in each role to find the best candidate
for the job (Whysall et al., 2019). Assessment centers, simulations, and competency best
interviews are other focus points for effective recruitment and selection process.
Performance Management and Development
This is through clear performance expectations since new hires can understand their roles
and responsibilities when clear performance expectations are set. Regular feedback and
performance enable continuous alignment and improvement of organizational goals (Mahapatro,
2021). Similarly, career development opportunities are also required for the quality of new hires
and overall workforce success.
Talent Management and Succession Planning
Succession planning involves developing strategies to identify and nurture high-potential
employees to ensure a pipeline of forthcoming leaders and critical roles. Similarly, conducting a
skill gap analysis is essential to identify areas where development and additional training are
needed (Whysall et al., 2019).
Strategies for Attracting and Retaining Top Talent
Prioritize culture when hiring and afterwards.
The organization is defined by its culture, which influences every aspect of the
employees' work. 0If a team member does not align with the culture the company has built, they
will struggle to perform at their best, potentially causing discord in their team and being likely to
move on sooner rather than later (Mahapatro, 2021). Keep culture in mind during each stage of
recruitment. Transparent communication about the type of candidate needed will encourage
applicants and interviewees to be honest. This will attract more employees and retain the top
talents.
Career Development Programs
The organization needs to be a place where people advance their careers to attract top
talent and where people are given opportunities to learn new skills and take on new challenges
(Whysall et al., 2019). And job candidates need to know about it. Attract qualified applicants
with compelling job descriptions.
Effective Recruitment Channels
Professional networks, online job boards and social media platforms are some of the best
recruitment channels that enable a wider reach of probable candidates with distinct skills and
backgrounds.
Challenges in the Recruitment and Selection Process
Skill Shortage
Rapid technological advancement may lead to skill gaps or demand shifts in skills. Such
shortage can result in an inefficient recruitment process with increased time to fill and recruiters
settling for less-than-ideal candidates (Whysall et al., 2019).
Competition for Talent
Top talent attraction can be challenging in competitive industries as candidates might
have multiple job offers. This is a challenge for employers to find such top talents (Mahapatro,
2021). Hence, receiving a large volume of resumes0can be challenging for recruiters.
