Coach Pat Murphy- one of the most successful college baseball coaches (used to coach ASU)
•Continue to develop, don’t let yourself get off track
oHow to you keep yourself inline?
Be aware of your weakness, abilities
•Live within the constraints of how the operation works
•So many opportunities, where we are at right now
•Set a plan, who are you gonna be around, what are you going to do, who are you going to
be?
•Being on time- be where your supposed to be, be prepared, to be on time, showing that
you are present, not missing an opportunity (class definition)
oPat’s definition: being present, internal beat has to be rhythmic, can’t get ahead of
ourselves, when you feel great about yourself, grateful, gentle, giving, genuine
(4G’s)
•You don’t what your best is
oDon’t let failure get in the way (doubt)
oNo idea of who you want to be
oNo idea of how good you can be or what you can achieve (confidence)
•The 4 D’s:
o1. Make a decision based on the internal beat, how it makes you feel
o2. Have the desire- passion, vision- to achieve greatness
A little bit of “fear” involved with achieving greatness
Palm down- giving, part of a team, what can I do for you
Palm up- want, what can you do for me
o3. Determination – not giving up, stick with it, anything you want to do requires
determination to stay dedicated and motivated
Ordinary people do extraordinary things
o4. Discipline- ability to stay on track, doing what your supposed to do when your
supposed to do it, whether you like it or not
•Being prepared, being good at what you do
•Preparation + confidence = success
•“Confidence” comes from with in ability to overcome your fears
