UniFormat- a classification system for organizing project information that is based on functional
components of a building project.
MasterFormat- A classification system based upon material types
design-bid-build-Traditionally referred to as “low bid” Linear process – each step must be
completed before proceeding to next Longest project duration Adversarial relationships.
design-build-Single service provider for design & construction Allows phased execution, start
construction as complete design Shifts design risk from owner to contractor No “finger
pointing”
Construction manager at risk(CMAR)-Separate contracts for design and construction CM
selected during design, provides preconstruction services CM becomes GC for construction

Design Professional (architect/engineer)- has the responsibility to recommend or suggest
particular finishes or materials.
