along with the benefits and drawbacks linked with the utilization of such sources. In it, the
different types of sources such as Govt, Private and NGO’s, their roles, responsibilities and
scope of operations etc. sources, magazines and Social networking sites where they mentioned it,
as well as its relevance in the course of conducting a competitors’ analysis. Other aspects were
for instance the option of gathering data cheaper, general capturing of market developments and
current availability to information among others. These potential helped in the decision making
process in the organisation in the most informed manner. It also touched on areas that may be
considered as concerning potential for developing wrong information, no proprietary information
and matters pertaining to the reliability of the developed information. They described several
methods of usage that included formulation of sound filtering systems, feeding not only public
but also private information, and staff training and capacity within the conduct of the analysis.
Other assumptions considered included; utilization of artificial intelligence in data processing,
enhanced corporate governance and new laws on information sharing. The fact that possibility
and limitation were two features required to be achieved to obtain competitive advantage also
came to light in this study by adopting a social constructivist approach. Especially, it was stated
that only those enterprises which could cope with this multifaceted sphere of information with
the usage of the up-to-date technologies and the high skills of the employees could gain success
in the foreign market. Apart from that, it made the realization that there is need for a proper
assessment on how public information can be utilised in the development of proper strategies for
CI in the spirit of competition.

Introduction
The step which companies use to gather competitive intelligence through the
accumulation of public information is another important step in the process of; Companies gain
useful information regarding trends in the market, the activities of its competitors and certain
events happening in the particular industry. Most of these resources can enrich the firms via
social sites such as face book, trade papers, and government sites whereby several quantities of
easy stretching data can be acquired to boost a business. As such, it remains imperative to the
corporate strategy because public information is but a medium that lets strategic decision-making
and overall planning transpire. In this way, instead of having to spend a lot on proprietary
research to find out information such as the new trend among consumers, new technologies, or
change in laws, adopting these resources will help save on such costs. While using the sources,
people can get many kinds of information at reasonable prices and from various sides, the
problem of receiving out of date or non-accurate information can lead to appearance of
unbeneficial strategic mistakes. Furthermore, there is an overload of data that needs proper
techniques to filter to train and comprehend the insights from. Another aspect is the fact that
what is public information companies should also consider, as it does not give the analysis of the
competitors’ actions or a shareholders’ or insiders’ information, for example. Among the issues
therein which links public information to huge strategic value in CI, there are various limitations
to acquiring public information. Given that today’s business world environment is equally more
competitive and dynamic in equal measure, the skills of identifying , capturing as well as using
public information as and when it is available, that is, knowledge management competency area
known to the company. Therefore, it can be said that to promote a leading position in long-term
information management systems among the organizations and its employees, businesses can
utilize the power of public information that exist.
Types of Public Information Sources
Government databases and reports
Libraries as all as the reports filed to the government are good sources for more, broader
and more credible research on different topics. Albeit it provides a vast source of data and
information about statistical dates, regulations about economic analysis, articles, and research
papers relating to concern areas of enterprises, academies, and government bodies. The United
4
States Census Bureau, the Eurostat, and the National Bureau of Economic Research: which
possesses a lot of demographic/socio-economic information that may influence, so much the
decision making and formulation of policies/strategies? The respective roles of the GAO and the
ONS are to publish the public studies in order to provide the necessary data on ongoing activities
of the government, outcome of policies and changes in business fields. It must also be mentioned
that in most of these studies, high level of methodological rigor is observed and all the aspects of
the problems under discussion are discussed. These articles are prepared and authored by expert
in the concerned fields, undergo independent analysis and verification. Research permits and
licenses, identification of permits and licenses needed for research, comparisons of the findings
and recommendations of the research with the findings and recommendations of similar research,
and other requirements that call for examination of databases and government publications.
Moreover, these sources serve as the framework for ascertaining validity and credibility of the
collected data and are more helpful in offering benchmarking and constant monitoring for a
longer span of time. Some of the benefits of using high quality data may include the following:
From the given research projects, there could be an enhanced quality of work they deliver
through quality data and hence, quality knowledge on which policies and business plans are
founded. The other main sources of information, gas, include useful information that is
importance in intellectual or official Inquiry. They offer one of the broadest and the most
extensive forms of information–a form of information that offers just as much insight and detail
as is needed to make a correct judgment.
Industry publications and trade journals
Newspapers and business periodicals are some of the essential information sources since
many workers seek to be up to date with the newest trends, innovations, or improvements in their
various fields. Examples of these publications include the Harvard Business Review, The
Economist, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Finance, among others, as they provide the
necessary background, details’ analysis and industry insights as well as cases that could be
informative to both practitioners as well as academics. Often other articles are contributed by
experts of the trade and encompass vital, down to earth information and real life scenarios about
new tools, change in laws and about rapidly changing business environment. All the above
implies that Chemical & Engineering News, Aviation Week & Space Technology and several
other similar magazines cover scientific advances, changes in policies and practices, and
5
industrial news that engineers in those industries require to know. Majority of these publications
become useful instruments in disseminating new researches and Idea and knowledge along with
best practices in the industry and ideas sharing for improved career progression. They have a
significant responsibility in explicating the business and workforce policies regarding the
aforementioned special industry through identification of important matters that needs to be
addressed in the given setting and firm management of the interest group advocacy of the certain
area of interest entrusted to them. It is significant to hire these periodicals for ordinary
communication so that the professionals can enhance their strategic abilities, and adapt to the
fluctuating market situations giving them a competitive edge over other competitors. Newspapers
and magazines that relate to a specific business or industry often incorporate adverts and product
reviews that form a comprehensive database of the current tools and resources. It becomes
beneficial to the firms in the selection process so that they can make the correct choice when
making purchases. In light of the rapid technological changes and relatively globalized world of
today, it is imperative to be up-to-date and use reliable industry trade journals and periodicals.
This is why it is necessary for a professional to update their skills and knowledge as well as for
an organization to achieve success.
Social media and online platforms
Blogs and other media have changed manners of sharing information and communication
through them which are becoming valuable essential tools for commercial life, research and
community life in today’s society as a way to get the up to date information. Social media like
LinkedIn, Twitter and industry wise groups are open discussion forums and discussion groups
where professional and new ideas could be shared and experts from across the world could be
known. These platforms are very useful for information updates on various trends, news, and
innovation within the industry, as they occasionally spread information very quickly than the
usual media. For example, Twitter has been a valuable medium of real-time communication and
news feed which offers an opportunity to follow the important personalities and companies.
Being the professional society site, which is extremely useful in sharing of information and
development of networks, there are numerous groups available on LinkedIn connected with
different industries where working professionals can freely share and discuss challenges,
solutions, and opportunities available in their industries. As well, the news that people find from
blogs, forums and subreddits is a source of different types of discussions which may reflect
6
different viewpoints within industries, focusing on local developments and grassroots
movements not yet reported in conventional newspapers. Aside from the functions of networking
and sharing of information, social media platforms can also be used as sources of research
information. They enable aggregation of dispersion sentiments by using qualitative data mining
such as sentiment analysis and social list data gathering which gives information on public
opinion and trends. However, because information shared on social media is relatively short-
lived and often lacks any professional moderation, there is a need to approach this information
critically when confirming their authenticity and sources that provide them. Professionals
working on or researching in such fields need to tread carefully as if sifting through sands and
check facts and figures with authentic database or encyclopedias. Nevertheless, the intentional
employment of Social media and internet tools can substantially improve students’ knowledge
retention, professional participation and responsiveness to the contemporary trends and concerns
in the society in the current computerized world.
Opportunities Presented by Public Information Sources
Cost-effective data collection methods
Affordable data collection techniques are crucial in the Roll of business and researcher
who has intention to get reliable data at a comparatively cheap or affordable prices. Online
survey is one of such methods that provide a way to collect a large amount of data in a rather
short period of time and without significant efforts. Services such as SurveyMonkey or Google
forms or Qualtrics are self-developing online programs that enable the user to design surveys and
send them within a short amount of time and within the shortest possible time to a large
population at a cheaper cost. Web based surveys may use full some parts for certain demographic
groups, they have the opportunity to use several types of questions and may use a combination of
both numerical and worded responses. The two models that were identified to be cost-effective
are the use of existing secondary data and the use of word of mouth. Federal databases, journals,
magazines, and industry reports are available in the public domain, and in some cases may cost a
person a small fee; they are rich sources for an initial overview of the topic of concern. The tool
allows data to be obtained from websites and online resources with the help of a web scraper. As
sophisticated web scraping tool and API emerged business was made easy to gather huge data
sets on price competition, customer reviews, and market trend. The use of social media analytics
is highly useful for evaluating consumer insights and the costs associated with it are relatively
7
low. It is easy to tap into the social media traffic that emanates from Twitter, Facebook,
Instagram and the rest, in a bid to decode the needs of the consumers as well as trends that have
not yet gained much ground. Also, in relation to data collection, the use of technological tools
has specifically advanced the use of mobile data collection applications or MDCA, making
surveys and polls in the field more efficient and effective in that it can be done not only through
paper and pen and manually keyed into a computer. It has many features like GPS/multimedia
capturing and also has off line data gathering features which go a long way to inferring with the
research process benefits. All these assertions point towards the fact that, with such inexpensive
techniques of data gathering embraced by the organisations, one can always ensure that as they
gather relevant data in relation to their subjects of study, the data they garner is of the highest
quality to support sound decision making needs of their organisations, alongside which the cost
of research stays low.
Broad coverage of market trends
A particular emphasis should be made on the broad coverage of the trends that shape the
markets, such as global ones for companies that want to remain agile and adaptive in present day
world economy. To accredit such a widened understanding, it is necessary to employ not only
the conventional data but also experiment with innovative search tools. Such printed media will
still be useful as they offer industry-specific and market trends complete with analysis and
professional opinion on the market and its potential future trends. These reports are offered by
reputed market research companies and consulting firms like Gartner, Nielsen, and McKinsey
amongst others and offer reliable information about the customers’ purchasing patterns,
innovational updates, and altered regulations. Syndicated research services also provide
perpetual market coverage across sectors through providing regular updates that can be used to
compare undertaking performances to those of a particular industry. In addition to these, many
other conventional methods have been complemented by digital analytic options that are
particularly key for real-time market information. One example of a tool that can be used is the
Google Analytics; it ensures that businesses analyzes trends involving web traffic, users’
behaviors, and rates of conversion to ensure that a business gets to understand consumers well.
The opportunities of modern social networks for researching the market also open huge
potential: potentially using social networks, it is easy to find a lot of valuable and relevant
information that will help to identify the tendencies of certain markets. Through observing and
8
monitoring the various interactions as well as the sentiment expressed in the social media
platforms, the businesses will be in a position to detect new trending topics, concerning opinions
form the public as well as evaluating the effectiveness of a particular brand. This analysis can be
conducted using Mention for the analysis of the twitter platform, Brandwatch which can analyze
data from various social media platforms including Twitter and Sprout Social which offers an
integrated media monitoring social listening tool. In addition, it has also got easier to work with
big data, with the help of big data analytics and machine learning technologies being present that
allow tracking the relationships between different variables that can be otherwise hard to notice.
Technologies such as IBM Watson and Tableau offer an opportunity to sort and represent big
data that will help the business to understand the tendencies in the niche. Combining these
different, meaningful sources of data, business can have vast span coverage of the informative
markets and therefore enable them to predict the changes, understand areas of opportunity for
them to expand and develop new strategies for growth and development.
Real-time information accessibility
Businesses in the modern world of high speeds need real-time information access to meet
market shifts and opportunities, changes in customer volumes, and habits. Now there are fresh
possibilities to use real-time data in new ways to businesses due to numerous digital technology.
Organizations may obtain immediate states of key success factors and trends in the market
through applications developed by the analytical platforms and dashboards including Google
Data Studio, Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, and others. These tools allow the current data coming
from other sources to be displayed and processed. As with these tools, input from multiple
sources including organizational databases and Web metrics besides social media networks,
make these as an effective way of tracking the current status of the businesses. Mobile devices
have also helped improve another dimension of providing the right information at the right time
due to its increased usage. Mobile application and cloud services ensure that decision-makers
have relevant information at their fingertips regardless of their location, and thus the decision-
making process is not only faster but also more effective. Prominent mobile technologies for
CRM that might be used by the sales teams to better understand the customers, and perform
better in the field include HubSpot and Salesforce Mobile. There are special monitoring
technologies used in the field of obtaining real-time information. Businesses can control and
monitor social media conversations, brand name, and trends via the help of Sprinklr, Hootsuite,
9
TweetDeck, etc. This enables them to be able to reach out to their audience fast and also fend off
trolls and other negativity. Latest addition and innovations in real-time data processing and
analysis, trend prediction, and anomaly detection have been realised after the application of AI
and machine learning. These technologies can help the companies to yield competitive advantage
improving market forecast, efficiency of organizational processes, and offering products and
services, which meet clients’ needs and demands promptly. Business entities can stay rubber-
stamped and maintained while severities are present in business, any of which get present day
information in the market, thereby improving business outcome and implementing strategies.
Limitations of Public Information Sources
Potential for outdated or inaccurate data
One major drawback that weighs heavily in the use of External Sources is that the
information that is presented may be old or has not been updated and hence might be fake or
unreliable. This is important because the social data could be dated, this means that when the
firms rely on the social data to make some key strategic decisions it is going to make very bad
decisions that are going to have adverse impacts on the performance and competitiveness of the
specific firms in the market place. This is especially relevant in the technologically, financially,
and dependably growing industries like IT, finance, and healthcare where there could be
anticipated and sudden shifts in the marketplace and consumer attitude. Such data is not updated
frequently and thus encompasses historical information that may not accurately represent the
current situation and decision-making process. Besides, measurement errors can be attributed to
human mistake and variation in data acquisition techniques as well as biases in data acquisition.
For example, inconsistencies in methods of math computations by various organizations may
lead to mixed data sets which make the analysis and even the interpretation part of the process
challenging since different outcome is expected. Yet another source is the analysis of data from
various sources and such an analysis is likely to involve data that was defined and collected to
different standards, in different time periods, thus creating discrepancies. This is why it is always
important to establish data verification procedures to prevent the usage of wrong and out-of-date
information, such as cross-verifying data with other sources, and updating this data. It can also
be advantageous to organize the data so that the most current data is used in the decision process
by collecting data in real time and with analytic tools to support the decision making process to
ensure that the information being used is the most current information. Establishing a high level
10
of data accuracy and reliability that lay the foundation for data credibility may improve the
overall quality of the data used within the organisation. When the issue of weak and delayed data
is addressed, then businesses get more accurate decisions, and remain relevant in the business
competition.
Lack of company-specific proprietary information
It is the lack of private information related to the particular company – one of the most
crucial weaknesses of relying on external data sources, as it is impossible to make company-
tailored decisions with non-specific input. As a confluence of simple and complex information to
create valuable insights applicable to setting up a company’s strategic goals and tasks,
information not familiar to outsiders is the best way to go. I understand that this category of data
may encompass details of internal sales, customer preferences, as well as, organizational
efficiencies. Most of the time, market data do not focus on ids and idps, although some ids have
been linked with the types of idps. These idps pay attention on some structural aspects of an
organization and on its outcomes. This approach is again not helpful in the sense of measuring or
identifying organisational performance in specific areas of organisational activities. It also has
the potential to be disadvantageous when it comes to differentiating the market standing of the
firm overall, the amount of happiness among customers, or the number of efficiencies that the
organization has. For example, industry reports may offer broad trends that are useful for a rough
sense of the consumer base; however, data was acquired from various sources could be
previously collected disregarding the specifics of a certain company’s clients. Competition data
from external sources while may provide valuable standard for comparison, fail to integrate the
critical factors; the strategic plans and capabilities unique to the firm and differentiated it from its
competitors. To avoid this drawback, the firms must focus on the second aspect involving the
aggregation of information from both external and internal sources. Enterprise data integration
systems and great business intelligence solutions help to join a number of data sources – and as a
result these sources become not only more numerous but also wiser regarding the corporate
reality. Whilst doing so, the reader must appreciate that investment in building strong internal
data management and analysis capabilities can further improve the richness and precision of the
findings captured. Thus, if companies can manage to use strictly external data and private data
simultaneously, then they can develop more practicable and accurate plans, which, in turn will be
more relevant to their particular business strategies and strengths.
11
Difficulty in verifying source credibility
The fact that coming up with methods that can effectively confirm the reliability of data
sources is a major challenge in the field of data driven decision making confirms the above. This
is because, in the current world, it has become challenging to distinguish between reputable and
unreliable sources due to the volume of information that originates from different internet sites,
social networks, and third parties. For example, when using checked sources, there is no
guarantee of bias and erroneous results, which affects the data’s validity. For example,
customers’ posts on social network sites offer timely information, or, as the case may be, real-
time opinions; however, these opinions are unvalidated and could be swayed by the customer’s
beliefs, misconceptions, or even intentional misrepresentation. Third-party data suppliers, for
example may not always adhere to rigorous data acquisition and data verification standards and
hence may provide data that can be of questionable quality. The methods applied to collect data
and analyze it are not quite clear which adds obscurity to the process to ensure that the source
can be trusted. Based on this issue it can be argued that organizations should ensure that they
have a good procedure of confirming the data being used before being implemented. It is the
process of assessing the credibility and reliability of the data providers, the processes followed
for the accumulation and analysis of data, and the verification of the information in question with
a number of credible sources. Measures that could also improve the credibility of the utilized
data are the introduction of total data management systems that make accuracy of the data a
priority besides advocating for openness and accountability. Also, the use of advanced
technologies like the blockchain technology can go a long way in improving the reliability of the
data collected through improving on data tracking and validation this mean that the originality of
the data collected will be preserved and its authenticity will be proven beyond any reasonable
doubt. Managers should ensure that sources used in accruing data are credible so as to enhance
the quality and reliability of the data used in businesses. This can help companies become
capable of supporting decision-making processes that are much more reliable.
Strategies for Effective Utilization
Developing robust information filtering systems
It appears that control of the information sharing and usage of massive amounts of
available data from various sources is rather crucial for the businesses, which is why the efficient
information filtering systems are required. At this time when people are starved for some
12
information these systems come in handy in filtering out what data is relevant to the
organization, what data is credible to make decisions with, and what data is just noise that should
be discarded. For this purpose, the refined and effective filtering systems that are in current use
are the ones which are modern and scientific rather than conventional and traditional and which
are related to artificial intelligence for the evaluation and categorization of the data as per the
standards of relevance, reliability and time sensitivity. For example, algorithms with NLP may
analyze text data from news, updates from the personnel’s social media account, and other
industry reports to scan the vital topics and sentiments. This makes it possible to very quickly
scan and select the areas that may be generating emerging trends or issues. In the present case,
massive amounts of data are created in real-time and then fed into machine learning algorithms
to seek some patterns so as to filter out information that is beneficial to some organizational
objectives or strategic endeavors. Data filters increase the importance of filtered information
through formatting it in ways that are coherent to users in terms of decision-making and strategy
development, this makes both the decision-making and the strategic development processes
efficient. Hence any approach that will make it possible to get such systems with a combination
of more sectors is well welcome. This method is the participation with data scientist, it
personnel, domain specialist and various stakeholders to create the algorithms, design the data
integrated process and constantly optimize the productivity of the system. The improvement of
the sophisticated information filters which make a contribution to the further increase of the
adaptability and general heightened sensitivity of the businesses to the current and, especially,
the potent automobile markets which, in their turn, contribute to the improvement of the
efficiency of the decision-making and achievement of competitive advantages in the context of
the modern informational economy.
Combining public and private data sources
A daily collection of both public and private databases make sure that a company has a
broad and detailed view of the market, consumers, and the general trends in the relevant sectors.
The information that is necessary for the creation of the benchmark and identification of trends
of various industries could be obtained from the public domain data. They consist of the database
owned by the government, the regulations that have been developed and the filings which are
available in the internet and other publications. Such sources often allow not only presenting the
necessary materials and descriptions but also the statistical data regarding the population,
13
economic indicators, or changes in the policy. It may be used in attempts to alter the strategic
decisions that have been made or to address attempts to meet required regulatory standards.
However, a private data source means a data source that has been developed or owned by an
organization and which is deemed confidential. Some of private data include; financial
transaction, organizational/business activities, and statistical data of market research. Such
information is strategic in forecasting the demands from the customers, the position of
competitors and the particular organizational performance that is typical to the kind of business
organization. Discussed above is an idea that comes with the merging of public and private
databases where companies are able to see the full picture of the market. This helps in enabling
them to observe issues, create trends, and also notice opportunities that one might not be able to
notice when working on the data alone. Data integration can be defined on a higher level of
abstraction as the process of collecting data from different sources and making them available in
the needed format for subsequent analytical use in detailed processes such as data warehousing,
data lakes, api integration and others. Besides that, with the help of cloud computing and big data
technologies, the possibility of scaling and flexibility of data volumes integrated with large-scale
data types contributing to real-time analytics and real-time decision-making. However, the
integration between the two databases has to be very cautious of data privacy, security and the
legal implications on such data to reduce the risk of data being used or exposed to hackers. They
are capable of producing knowable information about markets, consumers and other relevant
subjects that would facilitate new products and services, improvement in firms’ customer
services and support the sustainable development if organisations will seize the opportunity in
integrating both public and private datasets.
Training employees in information analysis
It is relevant to train employees in the analysis of information as it is for them to be
armed with knowledge and abilities to execute tasks and assignments in the process of data
analysis within their organizational environment. In the contemporary society, characterised by
more knowledge-based economy with information being considered an important organizational
capital, there is the need for organizations to commit resources to continuing education and
development that improves the problem solving skills of employees. Analytical courses should
14
involve genres such as statistical analysis, data visualization, predictive modeling, qualitative
research approaches among other genres. Interns can get real experience while practicing in
internships, training seminars, online courses, and certification to become professional idea
generators and manipulators. However, the training should concern the ability to think critically
and use problem-solving skills as all the employees should be able to analyze patterns, identify
deviations, and make reasonable decisions based on complex information. Furthermore, when
the concept of big data is mentioned along with its relevance within the business context, such as
in this case, it promotes the dissemination of information, collaboration, and innovation within
the company. Some measures that may help organizations to achieve this goal include the fact
that at the organizational level as well as at other operationalized levels of the organisation, to
help the workers get the right data in the right form for the right decisions that would improve
organisational performance and help implement the corporate strategies. Furthermore, it is
agreed that as training on the analysis of information is conducted frequently, personnel are
made aware of the advancement in technology and the right methodology of analyzing data that
they can embrace the market challenges and the increasing trend in the industry. Thus, in fact,
the expenditure in building human capital contributes to improving the configurative
characteristics, the formalized decision-making processes, and data to innovate in the
organization’s drive for competitive advantage.
Future Trends in Public Information Usage
Artificial intelligence in data processing
AI has become very influential in the way data is processed to help organization derive
important information from large and complicated data. Every two deep AI algorithms work
towards automating and simplifying how data is manipulated; they include Machine learning and
Natural language processing. This reduces the chances of human errors that may occur in the
system and the overall productivity improves. For instance, in performing construction of the
machine learning models, one can consider past information concerning a specific commercial
tendency so as to be in a position to determine patterns that shall help in the prediction of future
tendencies within the commercial processes. The further analysis of the material in the forms of
customers’ feedbacks, social media posts, or articles is possible with NLP algorithms for
extracting useful information as well as the sentiment analysis. It could be applied to AI
processing to be able to understand the consumer behavior and trends in the current society well
15
in order to have the correct strategies to make for the business. Some of them are picture
recognition and voice recognition techniques which expand the range of sources to those that are
not textual. Other data processing tasks performed by organizations at a large scale and using
services, tools, and platforms based on artificial intelligence include the ability of organizations
to use tools like IBM Watson, Google Cloud AI, and AWS Sage Maker can help them bring
innovative ideas to the market and generate better revenues than their competitors. On the other
hand, Artificial Intelligence in data analysis or the use of big data and machine learning
algorithms needs a critical evaluation of the various ethical factors that come into play like rights
of the individuals whose data is being used, the question of bias, and the lack of interpretability
of the results generated by the algorithms. There is only one way that Artificial intelligence can
only be implemented in an appropriate manner through the existing governance structures and
ethical frameworks that organizations should embrace so that stakeholders can put their trust in
the technology. There is also the opportunity of creating new shots at developments,
strengthening decision-making powers, and maintaining competitive advantage in the present
day environment where data-driven organizations are becoming more popular, which all the
firms can benefit from by using the ability of artificial intelligence in data management.
Increased transparency in corporate reporting
The management and disclosure of corporate information and result are gradually
evolving into one of the critical elements of corporate governance. This has been occasioned by
the demanding stakeholder’s demand for higher levels of disclosure regarding the performance
of organizations, the risks that they encounter and the sustainable management strategies adopted
by organizations. The releasing of general financial outcomes and shares, strategic targets and
aims, as well as corporate management systems contribute to the raise of the level of confidence
and credibility among investors, regulators, workers and the rest of the public with the help of
transparent reporting. In an attempt to report on non-financial performance indicators, inclusive
of environmental, social and governance (ESG), companies are adopting integrated reporting
models. Two examples of these frameworks are GRI and sustainability standards that have been
developed by SASB. The use of these frameworks is that it makes the reports more comparable
as it ensures that they are standard and formatted in the same way, allowing stakeholders to
compare the methods that organizations employ in creating value and addressing risks in the long
run. Technologies like blockchain and DLT improve the business transparency by offering
16
record keeping of business transactions and disclosures with some level of changes tracking
capabilities. By employing the help of online resources and websites designated for investor
relations, companies can prepare and disseminate reports that are complete and easily accessible
as to facilitate more transparency and disclosure. Legislative standards that need to be complied
with to practicing openness in corporate reporting are the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) and the
European Union Directive on Non-Financial Reporting. Furthermore, it needs to be sustained
continuously to eliminate any possibility of compromising the distinction between an academic
article and an advertisement. To this end, it will be possible for organizations to enhance their
stance in the global marketplaces, enhance their communication with stakeholders and decrease
reputation risks in case the company embraces transparency as primary and embeds it into
organizational culture.
Evolving regulations on information sharing
Through the various rules on information sharing that exist and seem to change from time
to time, the manner in which companies collect, use, and transfer data in compliance with global
and regional legal requirements is being defined. New regulations like the General Data
protecting Regulation (GDPR) of the EU along with the California Consumer Privacy act
(CCPA) which are extremely stringent concerning consent, data protection and cross-border
transfers. It is crucial for organizations to undertake data governance frameworks and complete
privacy effect assessments in addition to generating accountability in data processing functions
in an effort to navigate through challenging legal terrains. The broadening of the concerns related
to information exchange also include not only privacy or protection of data and information, but
also their ownership and security, including issues related to rights to intellectual property as
well as the measures of cyber security at the same time. Large corporations that are engaged in
industries that are strictly monitored and regulated are bound by certain guidelines or
requirements of the specific sector that they are in like healthcare or financial services industries.
The regulations are such as the HIPAA for the protection and use of health information and the
BCBS on Banking supervision and risk management issues. Superintendencies of all the world
are gradually shifting their attention to the fact that it is necessary to control the non-fulfillment
of the norms of data protection legislation using audits, penalties, and other punitive measures
that will help to eliminate such non-compliance. These requirements state that organizations
have to track the changes in rules and regulation as well as industry standards, and collaborate
17
with legal consultants and compliance officers, and be anticipative in order to minimize the
related risks. A number of activities that firms can undertake in today’s interconnected global
environment include establishing trust with the stakeholders, promoting and adhering to high
standards of ethicality, and practicing responsible information sharing – all of which could be
achieved by placing regulatory compliance and data protection as the ultimate organizational
goals.
Blockchain technology for data verification
According to the previously discussed analysis and research work, it can be concluded
that the application of innovation technology of blockchain is effective in enhancing the
conventional methods for data validation. It offers procedures which are communicated and are
permanent, and are utilized to authenticate and initial the digitalized data. Remember that the
foundation of blockchain technology is the decentralized ledger. It is a ledger that records
transactions in a network of computers provided that the transactions taking place are
understandable and cannot be manipulated. It can be used to create records of transactions,
contracts and data transfers in a manner that is safe and the records created can also be secure. It
does away with the ability to centralised control or the having of middlemen. In general, it means
that there is a chance for a flow of trust and decreasing the potential of deceit in the process of
data verification. This is accomplished by making a record of the exchanges such that it is
detailed and readily retrievable. For example, when it comes to document sharing, there are other
ways that blockchain can be applied in as much as giving the document a temporal stamp that
shows when it was created up to the time it was shared is important. Moreover, smart contracts
which are standard contracts written in code that are designed to execute automatically on
blockchain technologies such as Ethereum and Hyperledger assist in the automation of
verification procedures as well as ensure the secure exchange of data. There are future solutions
that would be deployed in various industries are still under development as a way of improving
efficiency, transparency and the security of data in chain industries, banking industries and in the
health industries. There also exist some issues that block the mass adoption of blockchain
technology including scalability issues, legal questions and the compatibility of multiple
blockchains. That is why it is now necessary that stall holders, governments and colleges and
universities combined to address these issues as well as the potential in using the block chain in
verifying data, among others, were realized.

Crowdsourcing and collaborative intelligence gathering
Out of the two, crowdsourcing and collaborative intelligence gathering are two different
concepts which are being used to tap several abilities of several agencies and stakeholders to
nurture compilation and evaluation of data and decision making. Amazon Mechanical Turk,
Kaggle, and OpenIDEO are some of the examples of Crowdsourcing systems. They can facilitate
for companies to outsource various jobs to a pool of participants from across the globe. Some of
these include annotation of data, image categorization and analysis of sentiments. By such a
distribution technique, matters of the quick scalability and a variety of views are enabled to be
made to follow, which in turn enhances the quality and the variety of inputs that are generated
from the huge data sets. Unfortunately, collaborative intelligence is also a leap beyond
crowdsourcing because the people, teams, and organisations form an intentional, interlinked
framework in order to tackle complex problems and arrive at action-based insights. Coordination
software like GitHub and joining of researchers from different fields provide the members with
opportunities of sharing their work, participating in an invention of ideas, and disclosing
information which their colleagues have considered. Furthermore, social media or online forums
are another area of virtual community where people discuss and make perceptions or analysis
about this world while sharing info with one another. That is why crowdsourcing and
intelligence collecting are common in all ranges of difficulties including innovative solutions in
generating a new product, response to the crisis, and policy making. Organizations may
accelerate cycles of innovation, adoption of best practices, enhancing organizational decision-
making processes, and establishing open and inclusive organizational culture generator crowds
and develop ecosystems for sustainability. It means that to effectively implement crowdsourcing
and encouraging collective intelligence, we must take into consideration several questions, such
as: Diversity of participants, incentives, data protection and question of IP rights. Representing
the trend of today’s linked world, companies are able to leverage the benefits of collective
intelligence through the proper utilisation of specific forms of approach.
Conclusion
Therefore, the nature of competitive intelligence in the context of outlining its conceptual
framework as the corporate CI blurs the position of opportunities and a set of limits that
organizations have to navigate and address in order to build and sustain competitive advantage.
Contrary, they can actually formulate long-term business plans with improved information and a
19
glance at the whole picture because of the specifics of the information disclosed to the public. It
is a good manner of achieving competitive advantage by obtaining this information, the
dynamics of the market and the moves by the competitors. At the same time, it also has a number
of essential shortcomings, such as the necessity to check the given information for its
trustworthiness, to eliminate such unwanted ‘interference,’ as noise, and to take into
consideration the limitations that are inherent in working with the public data. Before embarking
on utilization of public information in order to fully exploit public information in gaining
competitive advantage, it is also important for the companies to reduce the threats which are
associated with the use of public information, thus it is the need to weigh the benefits accruing
from the use of public information as well as the risks involved in using public information.
Maintaining such balance is not a simple process; it is rather a highly intricate procedure that can
be easily explained yet at the same time, heavily rooted in the technology, human skills, and
strategy. It implies that firms should convene to develop robust syntactic supports and any tools
to enhance their capability to process large quantities of the existing data. At the same time, they
have to develop a trained staff to understand the information given to them to get the wanted
result from it. Investigating the foreseen future of competitive intelligence the following trends
are also predicted; technologies means based on AI and Machine learning to improve data
processing capacities and find hidden patterns in public data. It is this human factor that will
remain crucial when it comes to getting how these insights are relevant within the context of the
strategies, and the decision-making processes that are involved with these. Also, the
organizations should not be passive in collecting and using the data since the laws on the usage
of information are gradually evolving.
