Lesson 1 - Short Answer Part 3
3. There are three criteria you can use to determine whether or not your
communication is competent and successful. Review pages 12-15. Which
one of these criteria do you think you most often accomplish? Which one
do you feel you needs the most attention on your part? Give specific
examples.
I think the criteria that I most often accomplish is the message should achieve its
intended effect. I believe this criteria is used every day with every person. Therefore,
everyone communicates with people because they want “to achieve a goal or to
accomplish something.” (Beebe, Beebe, & Ivy) While in school, I would communicate
with friends, classmates, students, professor and more. For each of these people I
would have different goals. For example, the goal with being with my friend is to talk
and get to know each other instead of being alone. However this is different with
professors. The goal would be getting help with homework, talking about my
progress in class and so much more. The one criteria I need to work on is the
message should be understood. Lately, I been having problems with communicating
and I feel it will be a problem in the future. While talking to someone my words do not
come out properliy and many people would misunderstand me.
