Dr. Dutta Intercultural Communication
Intercultural communication is a communication pattern that changes rapidly on a day-to-
day basis. Society will need to prepare for these changes now so we can be prepared for the
future. With communication changing so rapidly, it will cause the world to become more
populated and diverse. It will become diverse in terms of language, ideology, and different racial
distributions. Communication is changing rapidly every day, and it will bring us into a different
world altogether.
Dr. Dutta states that communication patterns are changing a lot these days. He provided
the example of how society went from meeting in person (face to face) to meeting virtually
(zoom). This is due to the state of emergency that the world was in, and people felt safer meeting
online versus in person. Per the PowerPoint for chapter 8, Human Communication in Society, we
as humans need to have enhanced self-awareness. Having enhanced self-awareness “makes us
more aware of our own cultural identity and communication patterns.” Society as a whole
becoming more aware of one's communications patterns forced different groups of people all
over the world to change how they communicate. In the sense that -it would no longer be safe to
talk with one face to face given the circumstances in the world.
While communication is changing every day, the world will continue to evolve and
become a more diverse place. Dr. Dutta states that “the world will become much more populated
and diverse; it will be diverse in terms of language, ideology, and different racial distributions.”
This will force the world to become a much more different place than we are seeing today. A key
role in this changing world is someone who is called a border dweller. Per chapter 8, PowerPoint
Human Communication in Society, a border dweller is someone who “moves between
ethnicities, races, religions, languages, socioeconomic classes, or sexual orientations; through
travel, socialization, or relationships. This will result in people from all different types of races
and religions coming together in a romantic sense. Meaning that will be a direct result is a
changing population.
In conclusion, the world of communication is rapidly changing everyday. This will result
in a more diverse world, and a “whole different world.” However, we must prepare ourselves for
this change world now, or we will find ourselves lost in silence.
