Over the recent years, the use of technology in the healthcare sector has dramatically
transformed patient care services. In this context, the paper will summarize the Week 4 assigned
article and discuss how technology helps the nursing practice, emphasizing the transition from
phone calls to visual conversations. The change from using auditory cues to visual prompts is
intended to enhance the effectiveness of information sharing for preparing patients for a medical
procedure and resulting in improved outcomes. As technology advances in the modern day,
video instruction for preadmission education profoundly enriches the extent, understandability,
and accessibility of crucial health information to refine the quality of patient care, as
demonstrated in the two articles below.
The assigned article focuses on the application of video instruction in improving
preadmission patient education. Dacanay et al. (2023) emphasize the drawback of using regular
phone calls to convey preadmission instructions, particularly to patients with specific conditions
such as migraines. The article focuses on the usefulness of standardized video-based
interventions for relaying basic information most effectively and cost-conservatively, especially
in places where human capital is scarce. Using an educational video to convey information after
the initial introduction over the phone is more effective regarding time and outcome than a
telephone conversation.
Dacanay et al. (2023) state that "disseminating preadmission information should be
concise without sacrificing comprehensiveness" (p. 46). This affirms that the presentation of
preadmission information should be brief but comprehensive. Evaluations completed through
video-based educational interventions were ideal in preparing the patients for admission.
Offering one-to-one telephone communication can be difficult because of lack of time, patients'
interference, and the state of the patient's health (Dacanay et al., 2023). It stresses the importance

hospitalization. Focusing more on brevity while ensuring the comprehensiveness of the provided
preadmission information will assist healthcare providers in adequately preparing patients for
their hospital stay.
Impact of Technology on Nursing Practice
In recent years, technology has impacted the nursing practice in terms of efficiency,
patient care, and service delivery. The use of technology, such as documentation and medication,
has enhanced productivity and reduced cases of errors, enabling nurses to devote their time to
their primary duty of catering to the patients (Byrne, 2023). EHR has significantly changed
documentation and communication among caregivers, enhancing patient safety and care
coordination. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, telehealth and remote monitoring have
increased the availability of healthcare services by allowing for virtual consultation and remote
monitoring and making clinical decision support systems (Byrne, 2023). According to Byrne
(2023). “the most powerful influence in this current intersection of health care and technology is
the incredibly rapid rise of progressively more advanced forms of AI" (p. 889). Technology has
helped to enhance the delivery of nursing education by using simulation tools, virtual reality, and
online platforms, which are more flexible and exciting (Byrne, 2023). Using Big Data analysis,
nurses can work through massive amounts of data to enhance the quality of care and decision-
making (Byrne, 2023). Generally, technology supports integrated care delivery by helping
healthcare professionals communicate and share information and enhancing the ability of nurses
to provide safe, effective, and informed patient care.

significant step forward in healthcare. This approach improves the typical scenario of making
phone calls by offering timely, comprehensive, and easily understandable information to
patients, especially migraine patients. Through visuals and consistent content delivery, video
instruction positively impacts patient education and prepares them for better results and
healthcare initiatives. Further, technological advancement is in the patient's best interest but frees
up the healthcare providers' time and effort. In light of these developments, a more strategic use
of technology in areas like preadmission education will be vital in enhancing patient care and the
functionality of healthcare facilities.
