Learning from nadella's Example
Background and Authentic Leadership
Satya Nadella possessed considerable experience in his previous positions at Microsoft,
occupying both technical and managerial positions. He had a good understanding of the
organizational culture of the company and a technical background, which can be an added
advantage in doing the CEO job. Based on their personal life, his immigration and struggle for a
better life influenced him greatly as a leader and his learning process. A key sign of Nadella's
authenticity is the fact that he is transparent, empathetic, and willing to learn. He is the epitome
of genuine leadership since he is a role model to his subordinates by displaying behaviors that
uphold the best ethical standards and the principles of professionalism.
An important evidence of Nadella's role-model management is the focus on active listening
and learning. During his first year as CEO, he focused on analyzing the problems and viewpoints
of his subordinates before making any significant changes (Severson, 2017). This approach is
consistent with Goleman's democratic model of leadership, which encourages the involvement of
all employees in the decision-making process (Herman, 2023). Nadella’s role-model
management is also illustrated by the fact that he was personally committed to the growth of the
employees.
