An example of an electrolyte disturbance is metabolic acidosis. Metabolic acidosis is a

bicarbonate level or increased production of acid.

Real-World Applications
Alkanes: Paraffins, for instance, propane are used commonly as fuel for heating and
cooking. Propane exists in a liquid state in the tanks and hence portable; hence, it is efficient as
an energy resource in homes and business places.
Alkenes: Ethene or ethylene is one of the most important alkenes used for making
polyethylene, a widely used plastic. Polyethylene is used to design several products, such as
packaging materials, containers, as well as toys owing to the durability of the material.
Alkynes: Acetylene is one of the most widely used alkynes, mainly in welding and metal
cutting. It melts at a very high temp and, therefore, is useful in welding and other applications
where it is used to join metals together.
Environmental Impact
There are various significant environmental challenges that alkanes, alkynes, and alkenes
utilization causes, which are:
Alkanes: WhenWhen alkanes are burnt, carbon dioxide (CO ) and other Greenhouse ₂
gases are produced, affecting the climate. Also, extraction and transportation of propane are
likely to result in leakage of methane, a flammable substance which is very damaging to the

Alkenes: Polyethylene production and disposal contributes largely to plastic residuals,

environment and affects the welfare of animals.
Alkynes: Welding carried out with acetylene results to the emission of toxic compounds
and particulate matter to the environment and the detriment of human health. The energy needed

to operate these structures is also high, leading to exploitation of the environment and production
of carbon.
Eco-Friendly Alternatives
Alkanes: Another alternative to propane includes biogas generated from organic waste
materials. This method offers a clean and sustainable energy generation method and decreases
methane generated by the decomposing waste.
Alkenes: There are biodegradable plastics that are derived from plants than can substitute
polyethylene and thereby, displace plastics and pollutions in the environment.
Alkynes: Clean energy, which is hydrogen fuel generated from water through electrolysis
methods can substitute acetylene used in welding.
