Unit 7 Discussion - New Technologies
Topic: Artificial Intelligence in Medical Imaging
The tools in the healthcare industry continue to be enhanced, and new and adopted
technologies are changing the industry. One of the developments that was realized in the past ten
years is the integration of AI in medical imaging. Machine learning and deep learning A. I. have
been highly useful in diagnosing diseases and their treatment through better imaging solutions.
Emerging Technology: Artificial intelligence in medicine, specifically Medical Imaging
With the help of AI technologies, medical imaging incorporates the application of
significant algorithms for diagnosing images from such sections as X-ray, CT-scan, and MRI. AI
systems get to check irregularities, diagnose diseases, and even forecast the outcomes of a patient
with high effectiveness. One of the most specific uses has been found in the identification of
cancer. Studies have also indicated that AI algorithms also perform well in diagnosing the early
stage of breast cancer, lung cancer, and other kinds of cancer more accurately and faster than
human radiologists.
For instance, the one that has received FDA approval is IDx-DR, which works to
diagnose diabetic retinopathy from retinal images. Research has revealed the efficiency of this
technique in diagnosing the condition without the help of a specialist, hence enhancing early
management of the situation.
Resources for Staying Informed
Radiological Society of North America ( RSNA )
3
RSNA offers publications, meetings, and online courses to ensure the continued
education of experts in radiology and medical imaging (Najjar, 2023). Their journal, Radiology:
Imaging, is an Article publisher that mainly concentrates on Artificial Intelligence imaging and
has a collection of refereed articles and case reports.
The Journal of the American Medical Association, JAMA Network
JAMA Network provides rigorous research articles, such as JAMA Radiology, in which
it is expected to read articles on the newest trends in imaging (Lepri et al., 2024). Podcasts,
webinars, and CME courses offered by the network enable the professionals to remain informed
about the existing technologies and their applications.
Thus, the application of AI in medical imaging is one example illustrating how modern
technologies are transforming healthcare. This way, through sources such as RSNA or JAMA
Network, the staff remains aware of such changes and continues delivering quality treatment.
