How Might You Contribute to Sustainability in The Hospitality Industry?
Sustainability in the hospitality industry is demonstrated by applying measures that help
minimize the sector's adverse environmental effects and increase resource efficiency. The
recommended solution is to implement energy-conserving technologies like lighting, efficient
heating and cooling systems, and solar cells, which could dramatically reduce energy wastage
and greenhouse gas emissions.
Another vital area is waste minimization. They can avoid litter through proper disposal
and recycling of waste, recycle organic matter through proper disposal and reduce their
environmental impact through the reduction or elimination of the use of plastic products that are
not biodegradable. In addition, the purchase of locally produced food and environmentally
friendly products helps boost the local economy, not forgetting that there will be fewer emissions
due to transport. Sustainability measures for staff and guests are the same as educating the staff
and guests about the measures to be taken. Educating employees and customers about
environmentally friendly measures and involving them in conservational exercises like not
replacing towels and linen every day goes a long way in conserving the environment. These
actions are helpful for the environment while improving the hotel's position and may result in a
more effective use of resources (Smith & Jones, 2020).
