Arundhati Roy Book summary

 

Arundhati Roy was born on the 24th of November in 1961, to a Bengali Hindu Tea Plantation manager and a Malayali Syrian Christian women’s rights activist. Arundhati Roy shares several similarities with the protagonist of her novel, Rahel, including the setting of their upbringing. Arundhati lived in Tamil Nadu, and then in Kerala along with her mother, and an elder brother. She went on to study Architecture in India’s capital, where she encountered her first husband. She transitioned to working in films and television series after her divorce and eventually encountered her second husband in those circles. She published her debut novel in 1997, which propelled her into the limelight, as the book received widespread success. The author used her new platform for political activism and brought global attention to human rights violations as well as environmental causes. After her first novel, Arundhati Roy penned several essays as an activist, but only one other fiction novel, which was published two decades after the publication of The God of Small Things.
