Pride and Prejudice Characters Analysis

-Elizabeth: Protagonist/ main character, age 20, and the second-eldest daughter. Sometimes called “Eliza” or “Lizzy.” Eventually marries Fitzwilliam Darcy.

-Jane: The oldest daughter, age 22. Eventually marries Charles Bingley.

-Mary: Third eldest daughter, an introvert who prefers reading over socializing.

-Catherine (“Kitty”): Fourth eldest daughter  

-Lydia: youngest daughter, age 15, impulsive and immature. She eventually elopes with George Wickham.  

Mr. Bennet: Father of the girls, moderately successful, but a lackluster husband and father.  

Mrs. Bennet: Mother of the girls, known for being unrefined and trite. Her apparent singular goal is to find marriage partners for her daughters.  

Charles Bingley: Age 22, close friend to Fitzwilliam Darcy, known to be good-natured, but easily swayed by the opinions and suggestions of others. A wealthy bachelor who becomes the love interest (and eventual husband) of Jane Bennet.

Caroline Bingley: Unmarried sister of Charles Bingley and Louisa Hurst.

Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy: Age 28, a very wealthy heir and landowner. Friend of Charles Bingley; Cousin of Colonel Fitzwilliam; Brother of Georgina; Nephew of Lady Catherine De Bourgh; eventual husband of Elizabeth Bennet.

Georgiana Darcy: Age 16; Kind and sincere sister of Fitzwilliam Darcy.  

Lady Anne Darcy: Mother of Fitzwilliam Darcy and Georgina Darcy. Sister of Lady Catherine De Bourgh.

Mr. George Wickham: Personable military man, with some character flaws. Rocky relationship with childhood companion Fitzwilliam Darcy. A romantic interest of Elizabeth for a short time. Eventually elopes with Lydia Bennet

Colonel Fitzwilliam: Fitzwilliam Darcy’s cousin, a likable military officer. He is interested in Elizabeth, but is discouraged by her lower social/ financial status.  

Lady Catherine De Bourgh: Aunt of Fitzwilliam Darcy and Colonel Fitzwilliam, widow of Sir Lewis De Bourgh, patron of Mr. Collins.

Miss Anne De Bourgh: Daughter of Lady Catherine De Bourgh, of very small stature, and in poor health.

Mr. William Collins: Cousin of Mr. Bennet, and as closest male relative, is heir to the Bennet estate in the event of Mr. Bennet’s passing. He is shallow and silly. Proposes to Elizabeth (who declines), then later to Elizabeth’s friend, Charlotte Lucas.  

Charlotte Lucas: Age 27. Elizabeth’s close friend, eventually marrying Mr. Collins for financial security only.  

Maria Lucas: Unmarried, younger sister of Charlotte Lucas.

Mr. and Mrs. Hurst: Sister (Louisa) and brother-in-law of Charles Bingley. Mrs. Hurst is a gossip, while Mr. Hurst is a man of leisure. 

Sir William and Lady Lucas: Parents of Charlotte Lucas, and neighbors of the Bennet family.

Mr. and Mrs. Gardiner: Brother and sister-in-law of Mrs. Bennet. More refined and educated than Mrs. Bennet.  

Mr. and Mrs. Phillips: Sister and brother-in-law of Mrs. Bennet. Mrs. Phillips is crass and uncultured. Mr Phillips is a lawyer.  

Colonel and Mrs. (Harriet) Forster: Commanding officer of militia stationed in Meryton.
