Moby Dick Characters Analysis
Ishmael
He is an inexperienced whaleman that seeks out the sea, he serves as Queequeg's assistant aboard the Pequod, and serves no major role aboard the ship. However, he is the narrator of the tale and the only survivor of the Pequod.
Queequeg
He is the son of a head chief from an Island in the pacific ocean, and he sought to learn about the Christain world and so boarded a whaling vessel that docked at his home. He is a skilled harpooner and fulfills the same role under the first mate, Starbuck. He is a close friend of Ishmael's and considers him to be his Bosom brother.
Starbuck
He is the first mate of the Pequod and the only member of the crew that openly opposes the hunting of the white whale. Until the very end, Starbuck attempts to dissuade Ahab from going after Moby Dick.
Stubbs
He is the second mate of the Pequod, and differs significantly from the first mate. He is a popular member of the official corp and is widely known to have good humor. Even during the course of intense conflict, Stubbs maintains a cool and composed head.
Flask
The third mate of the Pequod, is described as a short man with a confrontational attitude, he rarely minces words and tends to speak directly.
Ahab
He is the captain of the Pequod and has been whaling for 40 years before this last voyage of the ship. He lost his leg to Moby Dick in the hunt and now seeks to exact revenge on the beast.
