Sir Thomas Mallory Book summary
Sir Thomas Mallory is credited to be the author of Le Morte D’Arthur, but very little is known about him. The frequent use of the title ‘Sir’ suggests that Thomas Mallory had been knighted, but there are several knights with the same name in that period. Scholars have perused the records and determined that Mallory was probably knighted in the year 1441. He was a powerful member of the gentry, as indicated by the numerous political and public positions that were entrusted to him such as that of a Member of Parliament. Surprisingly, historical records indicate that Mallory turned his back on the life of a public figure and instead began a career as a professional career. Several charges were brought against him in the following years, which included charges of assault, rape, and even extortion. Furthermore, Mallory is believed to have escaped prison on at least two separate occasions, and he also received several pardons for his crimes. However, several literary scholars have disagreed with this narrative, as it is in strict opposition to the contents of his book. It is difficult to understand how a career criminal could spend so much time and energy in creating a book that praised honor and chivalry above all else.
