Margot Lee Shetterly Book summary

 

Margot Lee Shetterly was born into a middle-class family in Hampton Virginia. She was raised by her parents in the same region. Her father was a renowned climate scientist who worked at NASA, while Shetterly’s mother was an English professor at Hampton University. Margot studied business after graduating from High school, and upon the completion of her education, she moved to New York. In New York, she worked for several esteemed investment banking firms as well as media start-ups. Margot married Aran Shetterly and moved to Mexico with him. She was introduced to Katherine Johnson in 2010, which is when she learned about the black female computers that had begun to work in Langley in 1943. She realized that these women had contributed significantly to the nation’s technological prowess, and helped push the envelope towards an egalitarian society where people’s character was more important than their race or religion.
