Win or lose in relationships?
Options
Win/Lose
Lose/Win
Lose/Lose
Win/win
Win/Lose
If I win you lose! Ha ha
“If You Ain’t, First Your Last”- Ricky Bobby- Talladega Nights
OK in truly competitive, low trust situations
But in firms it’s the authoritarian approach for management and leadership- use of position, credentials, personality and power
Shouldn’t always be competing in relationships with bosses, co-workers, family, friends
In relationships if both people are always trying to win both are really losing.
Lose/Win
I lose, you win! Step on me again- that’s OK
I’ll do anything to keep peace
Leads to no vision, no demands no expectations
Means giving up in negotiations
Means burying too many feelings which may be repressed too much or brought up later
Lose/Lose
Two determined, stubborn, ego invested individuals interact
Both want to win but both will become vindictive, wanting to get even, and seek revenge if they don’t
The other person is always perceived as the enemy
In reality, both lose
Win/Win
Constantly seeks mutually benefit
Both parties feel good
Some positive cooperation and negotiation takes place
Success is not achieved at the expense or exclusion of others
Not your or my way or hit the highway; it’s a better way , a higher grounded, emotionally intelligent, better way!
Win/win best but win/lose and lose/win also OK depending on the situation; not Lose/Lose!!
