Introduction

This unit, we will explore the typical challenges in the legal and regulatory environment. The private sector requires a legal and regulatory environment that fosters business, and that is backed by strong institutions with effective monitoring and enforcement powers.

The sweeping challenges that global managers will face, involve an increasingly complex, interdependent, and dynamic global environment. The SSA region is not the exception. In a globalized economy, political, economic, legal, and technological developments can have repercussions around the world almost instantaneously. Thus, global managers need to adjust their strategies and management styles to best fit the host countries in SSA. Countries in which they would want to operate, whether directly or through some form of alliance. 

 

Unit Learning Outcomes

At the conclusion of the unit, the learner will be able to:

1. Compare legal environments across countries within the regions (CLO 2)

2. Analyze factors that influence the financial success of the regions (CLO 2)

3. Analyze the economic development of major energy producing countries (CLO 2)

4. Explain the geopolitical and social environment within which business must operate in the region (CLO 2)

5. Articulate the ethical and moral practices of doing business in the region (CLO 2)
