Unit 3 Assignment FAQ
Question:
What sections of the media presentation do we need to complete for Week 3 assignment?
Answer:
The 5 sections you need to complete are:
1. Biopsychosocial Information for Case Conceptualization (all of the sections)
2. Genogram
3. Ecomap
4. Legal and Ethical Considerations
Identify a minimum of three current or potential legal issues that may impact the client's mental health.
Identify a minimum of three current or potential ethical issues that may impact the client's mental health. Bullet points are ok but make sure you continue to write in complete sentences.
5. Annotated Bibliography
Some sections of the treatment plan will be completed later in the quarter. You can put N/A in these sections that are not part of this week’s assignment.
I strongly encourage you to view the Scoring Guide prior to submitting your assignment to make sure that you’ve included all of the necessary components of the assignment to score in the Distinguished column. The Scoring Guide is the grading rubric which I will use to score your assignment and provide you with feedback.
If you need support with academic writing and/or APA 7 formatting, contact the Capella Library. Academic honesty is important.
Question:
The assignment directions say to use the case studies as a basis, but are we elaborating on Jared or Hallie, or making up our own child case study?
Answer:
This is an important question. Yes, you will elaborate on the brief information presented in the media presentation for the client you select . You need to create additional context and details to be able to present a thorough and complete biopsychosocial report . In a sense, you are creating a client from the foundation presented in the media presentation. Each learner will provide unique case details as you form the assignment, making your assignment different than your colleagues’ even if you choose the same case. Please be sure to have enough details to also complete a family history for the genogram as well as the community, family, and school systems on the ecomap.
Question:
How do I get the biopsychosocial and treatment plan information out of the Capella program to turn in? I have everything filled out but the program is not allowing me to save or download what I have done without filling out every single box in the treatment plan. Where do I submit my genogram and ecomap?
Answer:
If you place “N/A” in the sections that are not required for this part of the assignment, you should be able to download the file from the Capella program and upload it as an attachment to your assignment. Otherwise, feel welcome to submit components of your assignment in word doc format. As long as I can access and view each part of your assignment, you should be okay. You can submit your genogram and ecomap as word or pdf documents.
Question:
If we do not have enough space in the treatment plan to fit our legal/ethical considerations and annotated bibliography, can we just attach a word document instead? Or would you prefer us to edit it to fit into the space provided?
Answer:
Please attach a word document if you run out of room.
Question:
There is a section within the biopsychosocial tab called legal and ethical considerations as well as another section entitled the same in the treatment plan section. Could you please clarify how these sections would differ?
Answer:
In the biopsychosocial, you are reporting (developing) background information for the client. What legal matters (past or current) have impacted the client Hallie or Jared? (You can decide). For example, perhaps you imagine that the child's parents are currently in the court process of determining custody and parental rights. Or, the family was involved with child protective services in the past. These are just examples.
In the treatment plan section, legal and ethical considerations section, you are going to identify 3 current or potential legal issues and 3 current or potential ethical issues that could impact the child's mental health.
To summarize:
In the biopsychosocial: Report legal and ethical events that occurred in the past or are occurring now for the client. You can develop this information for the client in addition to what was presented in the brief case introduction.
In the treatment plan: Identify 3 legal issues and 3 ethical issues that could continue to impact the client now or may impact the client in the future.
Reference Chapter 4 for additional considerations related to types of legal and ethical issues you might consider addressing.
Question:
What do we include in the ecomap?
Answer:
You will create the ecogram for the child's family to illustrate the relationships between the family and the environmental resources and environmental stressors that impact the family. The ecomap illustrates the family's connections to their external world. Remember that the environment can include Microsystem, Mesosystem, Exosystem, Macrosystem, and Chronosystem (see Chapter 9 reading for this week). Use the template provided in the media presentation to create the ecomap. For full credit you will need four positive relationships (blue line), four tenuous relationships (yellow line) and four negative relationships or stressors (red line) that provide a clear and detailed representation of individual, family, community, cultural, and societal factors contributing to the client's need for mental health counseling services. Remember to fully describe your ecomap in the Ecomap Analysis section of the Biopsychosocial assessment.
Question:
I’ve never created a genogram before this class. How do I create a genogram?
Answer:
You will create a 3 generation genogram for the client. Like the biopsychosocial information, you may need to create information and family members (e.g., names, ages, occupations, demographics, etc.) for the individuals in the genogram. In the Scoring Guide for this assignment, you will see that your genogram should provide clear identification of individual, family, community, cultural, and societal factors contributing to the client's need for mental health counseling services. You can do this by adding additional information about each family member in the genogram (identify their age, race, occupation, nationality, education level, physical illness, substance use, mental health concerns, etc.). Some learners will indicate these characteristics using written text by each family member, other learners will use different colors or symbols to identify additional characteristics (e.g., orange dot = history of substance abuse). You can also illustrate the connections between family members by adding lines that describe the type and quality of relationships in the family (e.g., zigzag line = strained relationship; double line = strong/close bond). You can choose how you would like to illustrate these identifiers for family members on the genogram. There is no one right way to create a genogram. Do make sure to include a key so that I know what any symbols, lines, or colors indicate. You can also decide how you will create your genogram (e.g., online, by hand, in a word doc, etc.). Some learners will use pen/paper to create their genograms, some will use computer program like Vengage, and some will create a genogram in powerpoint or word. If you draw your genogram on paper, you will need to take a picture to upload it to your submission as a file (tip: look at the photo of the genogram and make sure that I will be able to view and read your writing on the genogram). Question:
What is an annotated bibliography and how does it differ from a reference list?
Answer:
In an annotated bibliography, you will provide the APA 7 citation for the peer-reviewed journal article. Then, underneath the citation, you will provide a written description of the article and analyze the findings presented in the article that are relevant to the case. I am looking for 1-2 full paragraphs for each annotation.
