Confinement and Freedom

During the 19th century, the power of the women was not heard as it was rebuked and thrown away. With this in mid, it is very clear that the main theme of the story ‘The Story of an Hour’ that was written in the year 1894 is Confinement and Freedom. There are two opposite importance of inequality in the world in the state of men over the women but not just the men and women. We can see that Mrs. Mallard is very happy about the death of his husband, immediately she whispered the words ‘free, free, free!’ This shows that not even one knew the contempt feeling for her husband but only her.

Despite her losing her husband, she went on and describes all that she sees like she wants to recall all the details. She pointed out the “delicious breath of rain,” “sparrows were twittering in the eaves” and “notes of a distant song” at the point of her spouse death. When you go on and think of these statements, she is giving a description of the happy scenes meaning she was happy. This indicates that there was something more in the story rather than that a lady who has lost her husband.

In the whole story, we develop the real sensation that Mrs. Mallard was being mistreated and controlled by her spouse and it was a not cheerful marriage. Besides, she also says the statement of “the face that had never looked saves with love upon her, fixed and gray and dead”--this was more of how I pictured this man to be. The words that she uses to describe him are very strong--” The statement is very strong indicating that she was undergoing some sufferings.
