At times completing this type of job can be more difficult than thought and become a challenge for the managers in charge or working with employee’s annual reviews, etc. A performance appraisal is usually the strategy that is put into play to evaluate employees of the organization. The different types of questions that are provided on the appraisal forms need to match with the tasks and responsibilities on the employee’s job position and daily tasks. An up to date review on the appraisal forms revolves cooks, as well as the supervisors, can allow acknowledgment on different essential areas that need to be covered to continue with the evaluation process of an employee.
Before considering evaluating the employee, managers have to possess the ability to observe a set of standards for each competency delegated to the employee in the organization. For a restaurant manager these may include: assuring safe and sanitary service and clean up, assuring accuracy of menu items ordered, as well as assuring timeliness of meals. Depending on the type of cuisine ordered additional skills may be needed in which the manager must be able to supervise or correct preparation when needed.
According to Dessler (2017) performance review or evaluation is an important process used to examine the effectiveness of human resources as utilized by an organization in meeting its goals and how each of the employees is making use of their abilities and skills. The key types of include; self-review, 360 reviews, probation review and graphic scale review. The questionnaire example below can be applied by a manager to review an employee’s effectiveness in an organization.
1. How would you rate your performance your performance on a scale of 1 to ten?
2. Do you undertake tasks and duties differently to achieve different outcomes?
3. What do you identify as the most challenging aspect of your work?

5. Is there anything management can do to help you in terms of your work or your everyday responsibilities?
6. Can you describe your working environment?
7. Describe your working relationship with your teammates?
As a self-review, the above questions are relevant and important in first hearing out the employee’s perception about their significance in the organization. At the same time, the exercise is critical in helping the employee find job satisfaction, which is a critical component in helping them elevate their relevance and performance in the organization. Although at the time an employee may find review setting a high standard, it is important for the review manger to come to an understanding with the employee on the key objectives of the exercise (Arulrajah, Opatha & Nawaratne 2015).
