Student Work Analysis
Lesson: Mathematics – Exploring Shapes
|
General notes and observations about the task: |
|
1. Which standard(s) and/or cluster(s) are targeted in this assignment? Are they grade-level standards? The standards below are grade-level, for Pre-K and they got addressed. • K.G.A.2: name shapes correctly regardless of their orientations or overall size. • K.G.B.4: analyze and compare two- and three-dimensional shapes in different sizes and orientations, using informal language to describe their similarities, their differences, and parts. 2. What is the mathematical purpose of the assignment? To assess students' ability to correctly identify and name basic shapes like squares, circles, triangles, and rectangles. 3. What aspect(s) of Rigor (conceptual understanding, procedural skill and fluency, and application) does the assignment address? Explain. It requires students to identify shapes correctly regardless of orientation or size. It also addresses procedural skill and fluency by asking students to name shapes confidently.

After looking at student work: |
|
1. How did the directions and/or prompts for the assignment allow students to demonstrate the requirements of the targeted standard(s)? Students were provided with clear instructions that guided them in identifying shapes accurately and discussing their similarities and differences
2. How did the mathematical content of the assignment allow students to demonstrate the requirements of the targeted standard(s)? The mathematical content of the assignment allowed students to demonstrate the requirements of the targeted standards by presenting them with shapes to identify and compare. Students then correctly named shapes and discussed their attributes by following concepts as outlined in the standards.
3. What patterns do you notice in the student work? ● What did students do consistently well? They understood shape identification process and consistently identified the shapes. ● Were there any common errors? There was confusion between shapes like rectangles and squares. |
