Please read the assignment brief in connection with this outline. Also refer to the study materials on reflective writing. The assignment involves the selection of up to two appropriate events or examples from your learning journal.

In this document are the broad areas that need to be covered. The exact titles or document design are not prescriptive, your own subtitles will need to be added in line with the content of your report.

Insert your table of contents here. Label appendices.

1. Selection of up to two appropriate events or examples from your learning journal.

1. Application of appropriate reading and concepts from the module, theories and/or models. Used to evaluate the influence of the chosen events or examples on your future employability behaviours and/ or attitudes.

1. Does the theory work in practice? Identification of any limits of the concepts and theories and modules you have applied in your analysis.

1. Focus must be on application of concepts, theories and models to the chosen significant events or examples; do not just provide a summary of the concept, theory or model. Use your own words. No lengthy quotations from the work of other writers; no cutting and pasting from other sources.

1. Excellent links made between your reflections, analysis of development areas and the development plan.

1. The development plan should include a minimum of three areas to develop, SMART objectives, a minimum of three learning strategies per point and identification of appropriate resources.

1. References cited must relate to the concepts, theories and models you applied and should be included in text with a full reference list using Harvard Referencing.

Introduction

Cover the purpose of the report. Indicate and reference the models of reflection you will be using in order to reflection upon your experiences. Indicate the experiences you will explore in the report. Refer to the personal development plan. Support the introduction with relevant references.

The Benefits of Reflection

What is the purpose and value of this kind of reflection?

Experience One

(Insert your own title here depending on the learning journal aspect you have chosen to cover)

In each of the sections relating to your experience should include a reflective discussion, an analysis of your personal experience and observations, application of theory. Commentary on what you will do as a result of this reflection.

Explore the experience using a model of reflection that you have identified as a framework. The workshops 1 and 13 materials refer to different models of reflection. E.g. if using Gibbs (1988_

Description:

Feelings :

Evaluation:

analysis:

action

Link your reflective discussions to relevant theoretical models and areas of study .

Which three (or more) theories (leadership, emotional, persuasive,) concepts could inform your analysis of what happened, how you perceived it and what you learned? Critique these in application to your own experience. How applicable or useful did you find the concepts in helping you to build insight or consider different approaches? Comment on the benefits, context or limitations of the theories.

How does this influence your attitude or employability-related behaviours in the future? Where and how could this learning could be used in the future? For example, what will you do the same or differently? What kind of situations could you foresee this being applied to?

Experience Two (same structure)

Conclusion

Summarise what you have learned from your analysis. How does this connect to what you could do, feel or think in the future? How have you connected this to your personal development plan?

Personal Development Plan

Structure your personal development plan according to the brief in the Workshop 16: Writing SMART Goals. A clear link should be seen between your analysis, your development goal and plan. This is your chance to demonstrate that you have reflected on what you will do in the future and how you can develop further. An additional career development goal can also be included in this personal development plan.

Aims:

What do I want to learn/achieve?

Actions:

What will I do to achieve this?

Resources:

What resources or support will I need?

Measurement:

What will my success criteria be? How will I know I’m making progress?

Review & Time Scale:

Date and method of review

Include three or more development goals here. Ensure that the goals you set are SMART i.e.

-Specific

-Measurable

-Actionable/achievable

-Realistic

-Timebound

Connected to each goal, you will need to think about more than one method of learning or development. List at least three ways to develop per goal.

For each goal, include named resources and/or hyperlinks to resources.

Ensure that your plan refers to a variety of types of resources.

Consider objective and behavioural measures, depending on the nature of your goal.

The recommended timescale for the plan is 1-year. You can also refer to ‘milestones’ on the way. How often will you review your progress?
