Airplane accidents are considered to be one of the most dreadful accidents in the transportation industry. For many years, airline companies have been looking into measures that can be put in place to reduce losses in the event of an accident.

III. Body

A. A brief history of airline accidents and overview of casualty figures

Airline accidents do not occur as often as other accidents such as road accidents. However, this does not serve as a comforting statement since when the accidents happen, the casualty numbers are usually devastating. It is rare to find airplane crash survivors, especially if you are concentrating on airplanes that fly along the highest altitudes – maybe here you can define highest altitudes, for example above xxxxx feet. (Velazquez, 2018). Unfortunately enough, these flights are known to carry many passengers due to their large capacity.

Perhaps, one of the earliest accidents with a large number of casualties that is documented is the ‘Wingfoot Air express’ plane that crashed into the Illinois Trust and Savings building on July 21, 1919 (Thibault, 2018). The plane killed thirteen people, three who were on board, and then people who were on the ground. It was a medium-size plane that as traveling at a considerably low altitude. The casualties would have been worse if it was on a higher altitude.

On March 27, 1997, two Boeing passenger jets collided on the runway at Los Rodeos edous airport, located in Spain or located in the island of Tenerife. . Flight (KLM 45O5) was just about to take off from the runway and Pan Am flight (1736) was about to land (DeVault et al., 2017). The two planes crashed in the process. Everyone that had boarded flight KLM 4505 was killed. The second plane, KLM 4505 had only sixty survivors (DeVault et al., 2017). The total casualties’ numbers were recorded as five hundred and eighty-three. (no need for the word fatalities here, it is repetitive). fatalities. There have been more than one hundred airplane accidents since the 1919 incident. At least, every single accident resulted in fatalities. Some accidents are blamed on human error, others on the weather, technical failures, and a couple of other reasons. It is also important to mention that usually the survivors of these airplane crashes suffer from extreme injuries. Most of them do not resume their normal activities and are left to be dependent on family and friends.

B. Measures that can be taken to reduce casualties

Aviation companies cannot guarantee that accidents will be reduced to zero. However, they are working with the government of America and other organizations that are involved in the business of air transport to come up with measures that are aimed at improving the air transport situation (Yang, Tjiptono & Poon, 2018). The following list includes some of the measures:

· Supporting industry inventions of automatic surveillance.

· Reviewing the airline certification process and requirements.

· Reducing airplane stops.

· Reducing the amount of alcohol that is served to passengers.

· Increasing airline security to mitigate terrorism.

C. The relevance of the proposed solutions

Automatic surveillance will improve the security standards of the airline protocol. This means that there will be fewer humans interacting with the plane systems. Doing so will minimize human error and increase the quality of surveillance for the aircraft. We acknowledge the tremendous job that is done by the safety staff but will believe that introducing machines will make the job even better.

This paper proposes that the certification process for both air transport personnel and companies should be reviewed. This move is not meant to lock out any players in the industry but to ensure that they are conversant with the latest requirements. We recommend that the safety personnel undergo training fresh training that will bring them up to date with the changes that have been introduced in air travel.

Long-distance flights are always subjected to several stops before reaching the final destination. This paper recommends that the number of stops should be reduced to the least possible number. This is based on the fact that the take-off and landing activities put airplanes at risk. Using the case of the 1919 flight collusion that has been analyzed in this paper, we can ascertain that the issue cannot be taken lightly. The research team acknowledges the need for the aircraft to refuel and this is the only priority that should be associated with airline stops.

We need to have a very sober team on board at all times. In the event of an accident, coordination between the cabin crew and passengers is of utmost importance. Having a sober team on board will ensure that coordination is smoothly coordinated in the event of an emergency. Procedures such as putting on safety garments and not panicking may come in very handy when dealing with a plane crash.

Terrorism has always been an issue when it comes to airline safety (Yang, Tjiptono & Poon, 2018). There have been several incidents where terrorists kidnap aircraft and cause forceful accidents. Currently, the problem has been controlled but we cannot rule out the possibility of an occurrence. It is with this thought that we have decided to introduce a solution to the problem. We commend the government for the great job that they have done in coordination homeland security with other relevant bodies with the sole aim of keeping terrorism out of the airline sector. Security personnel should keep up the good work and also introduce new measures to maintain an intelligence advantage over terrorism.

D. The role of technology

Technology also plays a crucial role in air transportation and customer service.. We acknowledge the fact that trends in technology change regularly. We recommend that airline companies should strive to maintain an innovative edge for that reason. From the four recommendations that have been proposed by this research, four of them depend on technology. This shows how important technology to air transportation. Incorporating the latest technology will ensure that aviation companies secure the latest safety techniques (Yang, Tjiptono & Poon, 2018).

IV. Conclusion

Airplane accidents have affected the air transport sector for years. Reducing the chances of their occurrence to zero will be almost impossible but we can act to mitigate the casualties of the accidents. The Wingfoot Air express accident and the Los Redous accident are a clear picture of how devastating the situation can get (Velazquez, 2018). It is high time that airline companies emphasized the need to secure customers from such happenings. The paper has advocated for several measures that can be implemented to deal with the problem. We urge aviation companies also to embrace the latest technology in the industry for we have seen the importance of technology in the transportation sector. We hope that artificial intelligence will be incorporated in the industry sooner than later.

Try to link your paper to the importance of customer service from the part of the crew, pilots, flight attendants, etc and its importance to minimize or avoid the different incidents and factors that you described above.
