Daizy Patel 19-11-19 Public Artwork + Meaning in Space: On-Site Research Artwork- I lift my lamp beside the golden door- by Dorothy Iannone The art work features three statues of liberty wearing dresses adorned with large stars and painted in a kaleidoscopic array colors, complemented by the word beside them “I Lift My Lamp beside the golden Door. The mural is colorful and vibrant. It gives me a badass women vibe. Iannone’s mural features depicts that have raised the statue of liberty a new as a symbol of the openness of New York city and the united states to those seeking asylum, freedom, or simply a better life. Iannone’s vibrant liberties bring a bit of joy to an exhausting and demoralizing political debate. The beautiful part of her work is it really emits and is a celebration of love, but it also comments on the current time. The murals stand for beauty, for compassion, for generosity, for freedom, and for wisdom. The murals are wearing bold clothing and Jewelry pieces with striped dresses and look beautiful, vibrant and bold. They are also wrapped in shawls around their legs and a crown of red and colorful stars on shawl. Each statue of liberty has been situated with their own space and has their own stands to depict each differently. The murals match comes in form of Lord Liberty, who stands knee-deep in a choppy sea with his naked body spotted with red, black and blue stars. There is nudity shown in the murals, though, doesn’t come through its ability to shock as her other paintings also posse’s nudity.
During my on-site research at the Highline, I noticed normally had many visitors, mostly tourists
from Europe or the other areas of united states. From the Walking path, I saw visitors taking
photos of an old building in the southwest direction showing a large mural of some females. I
took a glance there and couldn’t pass without stopping. The murals are just so attractive and I
noticed most of the people stopped by and were amazed how beautiful statue of liberty can be
depicted in Different form by an artist.
