The Problem
When looking at how to improve interdisciplinary collaboration, we have to look at where the problem lies. In this case, the problem lies in the lack of communication and trust within the interdisciplinary teams in the organization. Our goal is to improve our communication and trust within our teams and together as teams so that we have proper and effective communication. When this is achieved, we will be able to see better end results in our collaborations which in turn assist with better meeting the demands of the organization.

SBAR
PDSA Cycle
Improved Introduction
Effective Communications
Techniques that can implemented to reach these goals of better collaboration include SBAR, the PDSA Cycle, Improved introductions, and effective communications.

SBAR
(figure 2)
Using the SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) method of collaboration may be a little out of the ordinary for starting a collaborative session but is a very common theme among healthcare workers. According to Barnes (2023) “Faculty indicated the introduction of SBAR as a part of an icebreaker to model effective communication among nurses built on previous learning and enabled professionalism, inclusivity, respect, positive communication, and mutual support” (p.163). Starting any collaboration with positive, effective communication will set the tone for success.
I would discuss each of the 4 elements of SBAR as depicted on the above graphic on the slide.

ACT
(figure 1)
The Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) model is a commonly used tool for many organizations to assist with quality assurance (Christoff, 2018). This process could easily be implemented in any healthcare setting that does not involve direct patient care, as each step builds upon the other to reach the achieved outcome (Christoff, 2018). The PDSA model and apply to specific topics within your collaborations, or can be used in a broader perspective for larger collaboration groups.
I would discuss each of the 4 areas of the PDSA model as depicted on the above graphic on the slide.

Improved introductions and effective communications
Using PDSA and SBAR can improve introductions, first impressions, and communications within your teams and your collaborative partners. Using these techniques will help to develop better and stronger trust with co-workers and will assist in having stronger outcomes with your interdisciplinary collaborations (Sutherland et al., 2021).
Incorporating the use of technology in interdisciplinary collaborations.

Incorporating the use of Zoom and Microsoft Teams is a great tool for interdisciplinary collaborations. With a vast increase in the workforce working remotely, these programs have assisted greatly in improving collaborations for any large or small organization (Xusen et al.,2021).

Impact on human and financial resources
Minimal financial impact
Possible software or hardware upgrades
Minimal human resources impact
May take time/resources away from other projects
This type of project for improved collaborations is projected to have a very minimal impact on human and financial resources. Some employees may have to upgrade computer hardware (headset, microphone) for improved communications with Zoom and Microsoft teams. There could also be a need for additional software subscriptions or licenses.
Increasing collaboration could also cause an increase in meetings which may take time away from other projects that have a direct impact on a company's financial gains.
Increasing the effectiveness of collaboration in this setting has a projected financial impact of $1000 or less.

Evaluation
Evaluating the results of your collaboration.
Were Goals not met, met, or exceeded?
Is there room for continued improvement?
What was done well and can be rewarded?
When evaluating the results of your improved collaborations, you will have to look at the results of the collaboration. Did you meet the goals you set in your collaboration? Did you exceed your goals? Were your results stronger or greater than expected? Did all parties involved participate and gain something from the collaboration?
Is there room for continued improvement after evaluating if goals were met?
What did your team and the other teams do well? You want to reward these accomplishments and call them out.
