Location of project
Project overview
Provide a preliminary design analysis for two alternatives
Provide recommendations on the best way to get the pipe across the channel
Provide engineering plans for our selected alternative
Provide a detailed construction schedule and cost estimate for the selected alternative
Transportation recommendations
No additional trips generated during construction of the project
No future, long-term or short-term implications
Pedestrian bridge will provide a protected corridor along Washington Avenue
Geotechnical recommendations
Due to infiltration the Jack and Bore alternative requires a large amount of dewatering
Granite rock layer provides a suitable foundation for the pedestrian bridge
Structural recommendations
Prefabricated bridge
Main structure components include concrete and steel
Pipe is supported by the deck via saddles
Considered various load cases including seismic and wind load
Construction recommendations
Cost – Pedestrian bridge was significantly cheaper
Right-of-Way
Close proximity to City of Escondido public works yard
Construction Schedule
bridge would take approximately 4-5 months
Conclusions
Donovan & Associates recommends constructing a pedestrian bridge with the pipe crossing along the span of the bridge based on the following:
Transportation: Safe pedestrian corridor
Geotechnical: Granite rock provided a solid support foundation
Structural: Simplicity of design and prefabricated features
Construction: Cost of the bridge is $500,000 and can be constructed in a reasonable time frame
Final design
