Write approximately 250–350 words responding to these questions:

1. Where do you encounter both systems? Find two examples of metric measurements and two examples of U.S. customary measurements in your surroundings. Report the numbers and units you actually observe and explain what each measurement describes. Include an original photograph or labeled sketch of at least one example.

2. What makes the systems different? Explain how units relate within each system. Use a specific example, such as meters and centimeters compared with feet and inches. Convert one measurement you observed into the other system and show your calculation.

3. Which system would you choose? If the United States adopted one measurement system for everyday life, education, science, and business, which would you recommend? Consider ease of calculation, familiarity, communication, and working with other countries. Explain your reasoning.  Refer to the troy ounce in your response.

4. What would switching cost? Think beyond replacing road signs. What might happen to tools, machinery, product labels, construction plans, school materials, and employee training? Identify at least two potential costs and one possible long-term benefit. Who would bear those costs? You do not need to provide dollar estimates, but explain what information you would need to estimate them.

5. Would switching be worth it? Would you support an immediate change, a gradual transition, or continued use of both systems? Explain one tradeoff involved in your choice.

Use your own observations and reasoning. If you consult a source, include a link and explain how it informed your answer.
