Running head: KURT COBAIN’S CRIMES AND DRUG ADDICTIONS
KURT COBAIN’S CRIMES AND DRUG ADDICTIONS
Kurt Donald Cobain was a talented songwriter whose songs came to be a major hit during the 1990s. He was born in Aberdeen, Washington in 1961 where he showed great interest in art and music at a young age. He also had interest in piano and drum kit which later became a foundation to his future career. Cobain’s younger life depicts a troubled child who came from a family whom his father used to beat up his mother. In the year 1970 his parents divorced and he started living with his father and went to his mother on weekends. After the occurrence, he became withdrawn from family yet he was only 9 years old. His uncle brought him a guitar which he used to keep his mind away from his troubles. He attended Aberdeen high school where he impressed both teachers and fellow students with his artistic talent. His life came to change when he started listening to punk rock. In his high school life he started doing more drinking and drugging. He was even fighting with his mother who was also drinking and he could not stand his father. The years 1984 and 1985 saw him living in many different places at times at his friends’ place or even in hospital hallways. (Cobain, 2018)
In 1985 he was caught by the police for spraying paintings in buildings. Later on he claimed that he wrote ‘God is gay’ on the walls of local Seafirst Bank Building (now Bank of America.) However reports from the police state that he was arrested for writing "Ain’t got no how watchamacallit" which is the same lyrics he used in his song while with his crew, Nirvana. Police reports also show that he was arrested twice for the same.
The next year saw him at the hands of the authority again but with different case. This time he was booked for trespass. He was found at an abandoned building in his home town. According to the papers, he was found wandering on the roof of the building. He was trespassing while being intoxicated and at odd hours of the night. This made him spend a couple of days in police custody.
Kurt Cobain started using drugs at an age of 13. He started using heroine two years after using hash which probably was the worst mistake he ever did in his short life. He became an addict in the later years. When he finally made it to the main stream, the fame became too much to handle for one who used to do music for fun and now he was at the center of attention. It was at this moment that he met his second serious girlfriend, Courtney Love whom they later had a daughter. The two were so much into drugs and they usually used together. The heroine habit intensified during their relationships. He later went to rehab in 1992 but could not stay for long and even his relatives ended up losing track of his whereabouts. During his last tours in 1993-1994, his drug habits had taken much control of his life such that he could not control. The couple was at one time investigated when Love confessed of using heroine while being pregnant, an issue which later made them go on court sessions to keep custody of their daughter. He once attempted suicide in 1994 but was not successful as his girlfriend found out before it became worse. Few days later saw his girlfriend trying to help him out of drugs to an extent of suggesting him the best rehab. ("Kurt's Drug Problem", 2018) This made him become lonely. He spent too much time alone and high. The fame of music industry and the pressure from drugs such as heroine made his life be in turmoil which resulted in him committing suicide eventually by shooting himself using a short gun. (Cobain, 2018)
