ASSIGNMENT AND ASSESSMENT SUBMISSION All assessments must be completed and submitted by the due dates and in a timely manner. All assessments are due at 11:59 p.m. on Sundays utilizing Eastern Standard Time (EST). The assessments are found under the Course Content Learning Module’s various tabs. You are responsible for making sure your assignments and assessments have been submitted by checking the “Gradebook." All assignments must be completed and submitted using the Microsoft Office Suite (2016) software or (365) software. You cannot use Microsoft Works or other software. It is highly recommended that ALL assignments are submitted using a PC. Emailed assignments will not be accepted under any circumstances. Assignments will only be accepted and graded if they are submitted correctly via the instructions identified in each Module. How do I know if my Blackboard test or assignment was submitted? When you submit an assignment or test in Blackboard Ultra, a window will appear with a submission confirmation number. You can download a copy of this receipt directly from the window. Additionally, you will receive an automatic email confirmation with a copy of your submission receipt. I encourage you to save these receipts as proof of your submission. Below is an example of what the submission receipt looks like

.

If you have enabled email notifications for submission receipts, you'll also receive an email with your confirmation number and details each time you submit coursework.

COURSE POLICIES

COMMUNICATION POLICY The method of communication for this course is Norfolk State University email. My email is [email protected]. Please do not use the Course Messages email function on Blackboard. Send regular emails from your NSU outlook email. Your personal email addresses cannot be used. Email messages should always include your section number, e.g., CSC 150-90. Be courteous and follow etiquette protocols. You should be respectful to all recipients. Remember these documents are maintained on the system. Nothing is ever private. I will respond to your emails as soon as I can, preferably within a 48-hour turnaround time (excluding weekends and holidays when it might take longer to respond). REQUIRED LEARNER INTERACTION Learners are expected to provide regular substantive interaction with course content, learners and/or professor at least three times per week. A discussion post is considered substantive if all prompts have been answered in complete sentences, rather than in a simple acknowledgement or agreement.

WRITTEN WORK CRITERIA All written work is expected to reflect the proper use of grammar, spelling, and organization of material. Work with errors of this nature will be penalized. Be careful with abbreviations. Texting is meant to be a fast form of communication, so it is common to use abbreviations and shortcuts such as "LOL" (laugh out loud), "np" (no problem), or "u" (you). the use of abbreviation may be considered unprofessional. ACADEMIC INTEGRITY STANDARDS Academic integrity and honesty are central components of a student’s education, and ethical conduct should always be maintained. Under the University’s Student Code of Conduct, students have the responsibility to uphold the principles of academic integrity in all their academic work. Forms or violation include, but not limited to, cheating, plagiarism, falsification, multiple submissions, using works from another class assignment without instructor’s permission, attempting or assisting another classmate with a graded assignment without instructor’s permission, etc. Penalties for violating an academic integrity issue will result in a failing grade for the course. SIMnet Projects and Resource assignments have a special security feature called Academic Integrity Detection. When a student downloads a Resource or Project start file from the assignment page, SIMnet injects the user’s Unique Signature. You must upload a file that contains the same unique signature data that was included in the downloaded file. If the Unique Signature data does not match, you will receive an Academic Integrity Violation flag or will not be able to submit the file. ACADEMIC HONOR CODE Students will conduct themselves ethically and responsibly, safeguarding their own integrity and that of the community. In fairness to themselves and in justice to others, students will not lie, cheat or steal others’ ideas, nor will they tolerate egregious behavior in others. Students will avoid deception and collusion whenever they engage in academic activities offered under the auspices of NSU. As scholars,

The instructor reserves the right to modify the syllabus Revised: September 24, 2024 P a g e 9 | 11

students will scrupulously avoid plagiarism, learning to select high-quality research sources and to cite them correctly. ATTENDANCE POLICY Regular class attendance is vital to your academic success. Students are expected to participate in the course on a weekly basis. A student will be permitted one unexcused absence per semester hour credit or the number of times a given class meets per week. Once a student exceeds the number of allowed unexcused absences, the student is required to attain an official University excuse. Not more than twenty percent (20%) of class meetings (excused and/or unexcused) may be missed during a given semester. A student whose absences exceed 20% of scheduled class meetings for the term may receive a grade of “F” for the course. GUIDELINES FOR STUDENT COMPLAINTS The Dean of Students Office investigates and resolves complaints against Norfolk State University students and student organizations. • The complaint must indicate a possible violation of the Code of Student Conduct. • For complaints against faculty, contact the respective department chair. • Students are encouraged to contact the Dean of Students Office to discuss resolution options.

DIVERSITY AND INCLUSIVE LEARNING STATEMENT The University supports a diverse and inclusive learning environment where diversity and individual differences are received, understood, appreciated, and recognized as a source of strength to the classroom and physical activity. All Faculty, students, staff, and administrators in the department will respect and appreciate the differences, and at all times demonstrate an awareness of other peoples’ perspectives, behaviors, and worldviews may be different from their own. STATEMENT ON RECORDINGS We will use technology for virtual meetings and recordings in this course. Our use of such technology is governed by FERPA, the Acceptable Use of Technological Resources Policy, and Student Code of Conduct. A record of all meetings and recordings --regardless of platform—is kept and stored by the department in accordance with the Acceptable Use of Technological Resources Policy and FERPA. Your instructor will not share recordings of your class activities except as permitted by FERPA. Students may not record virtual meetings on their own. Students may not share recordings outside of this course. Doing so may result in disciplinary action. AMERICAN WITH DISABILITIES ACT (ADA) STATEMENT In accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, we ask if you have a disability or think you have a disability, please contact the Disability Student Services and International Students office upon registration at Norfolk State University to discuss confidentially any accommodation needs. Norfolk State University ensures equal access to instruction through collaboration between students with disabilities, instructors, and Disability Services for Students (DSS). “Reasonable” means the University permits no fundamental alterations of academic standards or retroactive modifications. Should you have a disability, including unseen disabilities such as learning disabilities, psychological

health injuries (such as PTSD), or cognitive disabilities (such as traumatic brain injuries), that requires reasonable accommodations, please consult https://www.nsu.edu/oasis for more information. OASIS COMPLAINT PROCEDURES Any properly registered student with a disability alleging a violation of their rights as it pertains to O.A.S.I.S at NSU (in keeping with title ii of the Americans with Disability act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation act of 1973) shall file a written complaint with the O.A.S.I.S coordinator of NSU. This written complaint shall be filed within 45 days of the alleged violation, unless the time for filing is extended by the O.A.S.I.S coordinator for good cause. The complainant or his /her designee must sign the complaint. How do I register with OASIS (Disability Services)? The OASIS Reasonable Accommodation Request is official ONLY after the form has been fully completed with all required signatures (the Office of OASIS and the professor). This date is the effective date for providing any required reasonable accommodations; students are encouraged to solicit any reasonable accommodation before the first day of class. No retroactive modifications will be provided. ENROLLMENT VERIFICATION Enrollment verification provides information regarding a student's full-time or part-time registration status, dates of attendance, degrees sought or awarded and program of study. It is your responsibility as a student to take the administrative action required to be removed from this course if you do not plan to complete it. Otherwise, it may result in you receiving a failing grade at the end of the summer session. It is your responsibility to check your email, to complete your learning activities as scheduled. Personal computer problems and other issues will not be accepted as excuses for not completing work and checking email. There are computers everywhere that you can access and do your work.

If you do not log on to Blackboard or communicate with the instructor during the first two weeks of school, you will be removed from the course. INCLEMENT WEATHER AND/OR UNIVERSITY CLOSING To ensure that all classes meet the required number of instructional contact hours, the method of offering continuous instruction in the event of class cancellation or University closure due to inclement weather and/or a pandemic is to provide course content, assignments and activities via Blackboard as the learning management system and the virtual classroom.

GENERATIVE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) TECHNOLOGY When used appropriately, generative AI can be an effective training tool to enhance learning. Generative AI produces new content from patterns learned from training data; it does not check for the veracity or accuracy of the input or output data. Although generative AI can be used as an effective learning tool, it should not replace students’ original work, critical thinking, or creativity. Generative AI platforms may be used as learning tools within defined contexts, but they cannot replace students' individual contributions. If you use generative AI tools, you must inform your instructor of this use and cite the contribution properly; otherwise, your actions would be considered academically dishonest and in violation of the NSU Code of Student Conduct.
