When thinking about risk management within an organization it is important to have leaders and managers that fully understand the way the organization operates. This understanding of all the processes and functions that make up the organization with vastly help in leaders and managers making effective and efficient problem-solving decisions. Some of the risks associated with this plan will come from operational risks such as human error or the making of unethical choices or even at time just poor judgment or bad decision making.
One way to effectively evaluate our employees and analyze their promotion potential is through our evaluation process. Every quarter each employee and manager should be given a quarterly evaluation that builds on itself each quarter to be utilized for their more important annual evaluation. So with these evaluations, they could be used as a tool to give a false reading to managers at higher levels is the eval is written poorly for a good employee or even written to where the employee is evaluated at an excellently high standard yet their work performance us substandard. There are many ways to manage the risk of falsely written evaluations but one key way is to educate all employees and supervisors on how to properly write an effective evaluation. The “do’s and don’ts” if you will on effective communication through writing on an employee’s attributes and potential with the company. It should show the areas they are effective at, need to improve at, and places where they excel within the workforce.
Being effectively evaluated is one key way for senior leaders within the organization to be able to identify those showing potential for promotions to the next level. Having the ability for key leaders to be able to properly see and read the complete body of work on an individual is monumental to ensure that the company is promoting the right individuals that are remaining ethical, moral, legal, all while staying loyal to the organization. This is why the evaluation is so important, and having fraudulent information on this can turn out to be detrimental to the organization.
The next point of paid time off which can be of great importance because when employees feel that they are cared for by the organization they will be internally motivated to work more efficiently and with a better attitude opposed to an organization that just treats them like a number and do not seem to care about them on a personal level. Paid time off is an aspect that I initially had the idea of birthdays and anniversaries, but after some reading and research while also thinking if my organization was international I may have some changes I may want to put into place. Initially, I had assumed that most Americans would enjoy having their birthdays and anniversaries off maybe some people would not. So now if I as a supervisor or manager force someone by policy to take those days off I may have unintentionally caused this employee to become disgruntled with the organization and possibly affect their work efficiently.
So on a personal level when thinking of people what if as an organization we give the employee some type of system where they earn days off for every month. Those days can be taken off by the individual at any time. Then as I was brainstorming a little more what if I didn’t want to an entire day off, but just a couple house of one day. Why not just instead of giving the employees that option? This I think could end up being an invaluable aspect of our business internationally. For example, if an employee had some family come in town unexpected so they just needed a couple of hours at the end of the day off it would be no issue to take a couple of hours of leave to be able to accommodate their family members keeping the employees' morale much higher. One example of how this could be used internationally would be during Ramadan which is a Muslim observance where fasting is observed from sunrise to sunset. In this case, employees could take leave during the hotter afternoon days without being forced to take an entire month of leave. These are just examples but could be used by any employee at any time.
In conclusion, the main keys to the operational success of my business or cooperation are maintaining highly motivated employees, effective communication through writing on evaluations leading to promotions, and giving the employees paid time off to be taken by them at their leisure. This is with all understanding that within our organization there will never be a single point of failure as long as we all work together as a team.
