Assignment #2: Title Page, Abstract page (heading only for now), Introduction (no heading is required in APA 7th edition format), Statement of the Problem (heading required) and Review of the Literature (heading required) (Refer to the Project Description for all Chapters document and the 550 Student Sample paper going forward).
Assignment #2 consists of the first, two chapters of your research proposal. It will consist of three to five new pages added to the work that you submitted in your previous assignment.
Chapter 1 comes directly from Assignment #1, where you described your problem and identified your research question or hypothesis statement. It is titled: Title page, Abstract page (heading only for now), Introduction (no heading required) and Statement of the Problem (heading required). Use your instructor’s feedback on that assignment to make any necessary improvements in the paper. Make certain that your research question or hypothesis statement is clearly identified and placed in the Statement of the Problem chapter going forward, as such so that the reader knows exactly what question you are going to answer or hypothesis that you are going to prove. It should be concise, focused and measurable.
Chapter 2 consists of your Review of the Literature. Incorporate the research you’ve read to support your research question or hypothesis statement. You are trying to present the current thinking in your field on the topic that you have chosen. A strong study will have opposing viewpoints regarding your question or statement. This is why a study is needed in order to answer the question or statement. A sound researcher recognizes that there are two sides to an argument; present them evenly and without bias. You may also find research that proves or disproves a theory in a different setting and you want to see if it applies in your setting. You are trying to establish a basis of your knowledge and demonstrate the depth of your understanding about your topic. You must include at least five reliable, scholarly sources in this chapter.
Add these studies to your reference section at the end of the paper. Include ideas expressed in the readings and use them in your discussion, e.g. “static stretching before intense exercise is found to be very effective in reducing injuries” (Maddox, 2006, p. 24). (This is an example of an in-text quotation, less than 40 words). Do not include references from proprietary web sources, mass publication magazines or other non-academic materials. Use the CUI library portal and SportDiscus as your most reliable source of information. When conducting your searches through SportDiscus you may check a preference in the column on the left that limits searches to academic journals.
