Wk 5 Discussion

To prepare:

·       Review this week’s Learning Resources.

·       Think about a business scenario in which someone defended himself or herself with a justification or excuse. You could be involved, or you could be an observer. 

·       Consider the use of defensive strategies in a business environment. 

·       Consider the relationship between internal and external rationale. 

With these thoughts in mind:

Post by Day 3 at least 350 words responding to the following: 

·       Describe the business scenario related to the justification or excuse.

·       Explain the defensive strategies you noticed.

·       Was the reason for the justification or excuse internal or external? Why does this matter?

o   Chapter 2, “Cultures, Relationships, and Conflict.” 

Chapter 2 examines how individuals present themselves through self-disclosure, which helps show others who you really are. The use of sound judgment is discussed as different levels of intimacy, and Social Penetration Theory is also explored.

o   Chapter 9, “Negative News and Crisis Communication.” 

Chapter 9 reviews the process of delivering a negative news message. In addition, this chapter also describes eliciting negative news, the importance of a crisis communication plan, and press conferences.
