Using lecture material and the textbook, compare and contrast the two dominant poleis in classical Greece: Athens and Sparta. In what ways were Athens and Sparta fundamentally different? Why did Athens and Sparta follow such radically different courses

Papers must be 4-5 pages in length, typed, double-spaced, and in 12-point font in Times New Roman or Arial.  Except for the assigned readings from Internet History Sourcebook, no web sources should be used.  Please type your name at the top of the first page.

Papers must be submitted electronically through Canvas no later than the due date indicated on the syllabus.  Any assignment submitted after the due date will have two points deducted for each day it is late.  No emailed assignments unless authorized by the instructor.

You do not have to include a bibliography.  Use parenthetical citations to reference your sources.  Material from the textbook and lecture should be used to support your argument.  Lecture material does not need to be cited.  When citing your textbook, follow the citation format as indicated below:
