Five Pillars
 
Hargreaves (2009) contends that there are "five pillars of purpose and partnership" (p. 22) for initiating and sustaining a viable change effort. He suggests that the first steps are to generate an "inspiring and inclusive vision" (p. 22), solicit "public engagement" (p. 24) in the process, get people to invest deeply in the initiative, ensure that businesses with whom schools develop partnerships are socially responsible entities, and meaningfully involve students in change efforts. For this discussion, state your position regarding Hargreaves’ suggestion. What are some of the benefits and drawbacks to school and community partnerships, particularly during a change effort? What has been your experience in developing partnerships with other organizations?
