Literature Review – Needs Assessment Process for Health Topic Selection 

For your Assignment this week, you will apply the knowledge you have gained regarding the needs 

assessment process and then create a literature review based on your approved topic. The literature review 

should meet the needs of the identified online community. Prepare a 3–5 page literature review following these 

steps: 

1. Include the pathophysiology of the disease process in layperson’s terminology. 

2. Provide health education goals and objectives. 

3. Locate reputable information (journals, books, trusted professional online sources, etc.) related to your 

chosen health condition. 

4. Evaluate the content of each source, and evaluate which articles provide the most accurate, up-to-date 

information for your approved topic. 

5. Look for trends in the data; analyze the similarities and differences in each source, and identify the core 

information to include in your literature review. 

6. Identify and include information pertaining to your overview of the topic. 

7. Summarize your findings. In your analysis, be sure to address the needs for health education based on 

your assessment findings and write your article in “editorial” rather than “research” style. 

8. Be sure to cite properly and always give credit to the original source.
