There have been reported cases of adverse side effects on individuals who use anti-retroviral drugs. This has caused many patients who are suffering from HIV and/or AIDS to change, limit or stop using them all together (Avert.org, 2014). The consequences of these actions have led to multiple unfortunate deaths over the years. However there has been progress made in the medical field that has seen major developments of the drug. There are new ARV medications that do not have as many side effects on the patients. Research shows that this medication has adverse effects on only as little as 10 percent of all the tested subjects. It is therefore wise that the clinician advising the patient advise the patient on all the options that are at the disposal of the patient (Avert.org, 2014). In addition, tests must be conducted to ensure that the patient will respond well to the medication since it is possible that different patients respond differently to different medication. The patient must also follow up with the doctor since both short term and long term effects must be monitored for the benefit of the patient (Avert.org, 2014).
