Motivational Interviewing Research Paper: An Overview of Motivational Interviewing
The purpose of this paper is to research, examine and provide an overview of Motivational Interviewing and the benefits and challenges to this approach. The paper should include the following: What is Motivational Interviewing (including the history, purpose, and underlying spirit)? What are the four core principles of Motivational Interviewing? Provide a brief description of each. What are the four basic listening techniques of Motivational Interviewing? (Provide a brief description of each.) What are the strengths and limitations of Motivational Interviewing based upon the literature? To what extent is Motivational Interviewing appropriate for diverse clients in terms of age, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, class, location and other relevant characteristics? To what extent is Motivational Interviewing appropriate for a variety of clinical and non-clinical settings according to the literature? What does the existing research state regarding effectiveness of Motivational Interviewing? Based on the NASW Code of Ethics, describe any ethical issues inherent in the Motivational Interviewing approach.
A rubric for the assignment will be provided, and the criteria for grading include:
1. Effective use of appropriate professional literature 2. Degree of analytic complexity and sophistication 3. Quality of composition
The paper should be 10-12 pages, include references, and written in APA format.
