This week you are working on Ratios and Proportional Reasoning, and lesson design. Proportional reasoning is one of the most fundamental topics in middle grades mathematics. Students’ ability to reason proportionally affects their understanding of fractions and measurement in elementary school, and it supports their understanding of functions and algebra in middle school and beyond. Given the importance of ratio and proportion, it is typical to see extensive class time devoted to the topic in upper elementary and middle school grades (National Counsel of Teacher of Mathematics).

For the indiv. assignment I have a couple tips:

1. You may find it hard to find a class teaching this topic this week. I would suggest just administering the assessment you design to one student, or your own child if in grades 3 to 8. Then you can complete the assignment using that data.

2. What type of assessment should you use? That is up to you. It can be a preassessment, formative, summative. Whatever works best for you.
