Let's Reflect!

                      Well, it's been a ride! I have been grateful for the new opportunity to participate in learning about young children in my possible future assistant classroom setting, which brightens up my day. Despite of all the challenges you, learn something new everyday. In fact, one of the first most significant aspects I have gained from this course is the tool of Observation in which is the, according to the editor, Kay Stritzel Rencken (1996) in the article, Observation: The Primary Tool in Assessment, "The primary way for teachers to know more about their young students and what engages them and interests them." "It is tied to assessment as a basis for a variety of educational decisions which affect the child and requires teachers to observe and analyze regularly what children are doing in the classroom." (1) One of the second significant aspects I've gained from this course is, "The physical, mental and behavioral benefits for young children. Such as, according to the source, APA (2008) in the article, Tips for Acting Boldly to Change Diet and Exercise for Kids, "Children whom exercise regularly and eat healthy are more likely to; Perform better academically, feel better about themselves, cope with stress and regulate their emotions better, avoid feelings of low self-esteem, anxiety and depression." (1) The third significant aspect in which I have gained from this course is, "The physical knowledge of, according to the author, Candace Jaruszewicz (2013) in the text, Curriculum and Methods for Early Childhood Educators, "Mathematics and science are subject areas which help children make connections between concrete materials and abstract concepts." (10.2) 

                     In addition, one challenge related to the course content I overcame during the course is attempting the week 2 power-point assignment, because not only was it challenging to formulate the assignment at first but I also didn't know my computer at home was experiencing technical difficulties before-hand when I went to attempt to write my assignment. In the near future from now on, I will attempt to resolve any technical difficulties with my computer at home or try to use another computer I have access to a couple of weeks before I have another large assignment due. 

                    One accomplishment in which I have achieved during this course that I am proud of and led to my achievements is, probably getting my week 1 assignments done ahead of time and the positive feedback I've relieved from the student's and instructor in response to my Introduction and discussion 1 and 2 posts. I put my assignments that week ahead of other priorities in my day. 

                     I now view the relationship between assessment, curriculum and instruction as being intertwined with one another. After all, you cannot plan a curriculum and instruction without properly assessing the material properly needed to instruct and guide the young children. 

                    Furthermore, at this time I feel I am fairly well prepared to complete the week 5 final project, but I'm not sure if I will excel on it the first time. I have recently completed my introduction, thesis statement and outline. I am now getting started on my lesson templates this week. Next week I will complete my rough draft. Week 5 I will finish my final draft. I might need the writing revisor or someone I know to proofread the document before it is submitted.
