Basic Algebra Discussion Question

Many problems can be solved with systems of linear equations. In "real life", these problems can be incredibly complex. This is one reason why linear algebra (the study of linear systems) is its own branch of mathematics. In your studies, you will find much simpler problems to solve.  For this discussion, find a SET of linear equations that might relate to something in your life.  You do not have to solve them, but list the equations.  You should have TWO equations and TWO variables.  Use the internet or your book to find examples.  You can post your own equations or respond or comment on another student's post. 

Here is an example .... Tickets to a game cost $5 for adults and $1 for children.  Attendance at the game was 1281 people.  There was $3425 in money collected.  How many of each ticket were sold?  Lets assume x= number of adult tickets and y = number of children's tickets.

x + y = 1281

5x + y = 3425
