Minority vs. Majority

How have your own concepts of "minority" and "majority" evolved in your lifetime, especially as you seek to appreciate the writing this week of "minority" writers? (More often than not "majority" has referred to white while "minority" has referred to black or non-white.) Share impressions from the reading and feel free to include a personal experience.
