Air Pollution

Our lungs are constantly cycling air. Included in that air are a variety of air pollutants. Particulate matter (PM) is one type of pollutant made of a mixture of solids and liquid droplets. The smaller the particle the more likely it will remain in the lungs and not be removed by coughing and sneezing. PM pollution is linked to decreased lung function. The two most common sources of PM are vehicle exhaust and emissions from coal-fired plants.

At this time, look at the air quality in your area by visiting the State of the Air Web site (link given in the resources) managed by the American Lung Association.
