Assignment 1: LASA 2: Cybercrimes and the Internet

Cybercrime can be described as any criminal action perpetrated primarily through the use of a computer. In this assignment, you will write a paper on three cybercrime cases. You will provide a summary of each case, what the outcome was, which law was violated, and any additional information on the case.

Tasks:

• Identify three actual cybercrime cases (the cases may be open or closed). At least one case that you choose must involve hacking.
• Identify whether the cybercriminal was caught and what the outcome of any potential trial was.
• Identify the software or hardware that was used and explain how it was used in the incidents being described.
• Evaluate the punishment handed down to the criminal.
• Identify the laws—federal and state—that were broken in committing the crimes.

• By Monday, October 6, 2014, prepare a 7- to 9-page report. Write in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources (i.e., use APA format); and display accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
