McDonalds Forecasting:

Please go to the following website and read the information about using Demand Management and Forecasting Techniques:

http://businesscasestudies.co.uk/mcdonalds-restaurants/managing-stock-to-meet-customer-needs/introduction.html#axzz3mhiMMFEX

After reading through the case study, please post 3 different areas that would be helpful to forecast better for McDonald's.  Include the type of model and what you are forecasting.  Also, comment on two of your classmates models as well.

Please read the De Mar's Product Strategy Case Study and Answer the following questions: (You may work in groups of 2 or 3)

1)  What is De Mar's Product? Identify the tangible parts of this product and its service components.

2)  How should other areas of De Mar (marketing, finance, personnel) support its product strategy?

3)  Eventhough De Mar's product is primarily a service product, how should each of the 10 strategic OM decisions in the text be managed to ensure that the product is successful?

Discussion 4

Process Strategy Discussion

Please watch the following three videos on how these products are produced.  They are from the television show Unwrapped.

In the Discussion Board, you need to summarize each process and identify which strategy the company is using and how they are using it to meet the customer's needs and satisfaction.  Also, discuss how you think that the process might be improved and which competitive strategy they are using; Cost, Response or Differentiation.  Remember they may be using a combination of different strategies.

Make sure to respond to 2 or 3 of your classmates posts to see if they had a different take on the strategies than you did.  I will also post my thoughts as to how the class did overall.

Please e-mail me if you have any questions.

Discussion 5

NCAA college football rankings represent, in some sense, a forecast of the relative likelihood of success of the top 25 teams in the country. Please identify the components that likely most influence the voter polls, as well as the actual components that make up the computer-based BCS rankings (you will need to do some research on the BCS system). In your discuss, post the pros and cons of the subjective voter rankings (forecasts) vs. the more objective computer BCS rankings (forecasts). Look up the data from the past few seasons, on how well the initial BCS rankings predicted the big five bowl winners vs. the voter polls that came out in the same week. (Note that there is definite correlation because the voter polls themselves make up part of the BCS formula.)

Please post your responses in the discussion section on blackboard.  This should be a really interactive discussion, there will be a lot of interesting views on the subject.
