Using the University online library resources and the Internet, research and select an example of a recent case from an international company or nongovernmental organization (NGO) where global factors had a significant impact on the functioning of a global virtual team. The case should be one where at least two cultures are involved and there should be evidence that global factors (or the successful navigation of those factors) played a role in the case.

For this case, be sure to focus more on global factors, such as shifts in availability of venture capital on the world market, volatility of transportation costs/safety, technology development, and environmental factors. You need not dwell on specific cultural factors such as communication style differences, variability in time orientations, and differing views of power distribution.

Post the articles or documents you used when researching the case as well as your analysis of the case.

Respond to the following:

• Select one or two global factors that you determine to be most important with respect to the company’s business. Explain why you have selected these factors. What evidence is there that these factors are important?
• How did/will the selected factors impede or enhance the company’s chance of success?
• What might have been done differently to anticipate or avoid the problems presented by these factors, or reap the benefits? What can be done now to mitigate the negative impact and encourage the positive potential of those factors?

Give reasons in support of your responses. Be sure to cite any relevant resources.

Write your initial response in 300–500 words. Your response should be thorough and address all components of the discussion question in detail; include citations of all sources, where needed, according to the APA Style; and demonstrate accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

• Identify 3–5 recent, additional articles that relate to these companies and the industry, cultures, or countries in which they conduct business. Utilize scholarly resources. You may find useful analyses in the module readings. In addition, familiarize yourself with Hofstede’s research on the dimensions of national cultures (you may wish to review the website of Geert Hofstede and Gert Jan Hofstede).

• Compare and contrast at least three of the cultures relevant to the case. Explain the core differences in cultural dimensions between these cultures. For example, how do they view aspects such as power relationships, communication styles, and societal structure?

• Explain how these factors affected the case and how they would affect your leadership decisions while working in such a context. Outline at least two things you would have done differently.

You should utilize at least 3–5 scholarly sources beyond the course readings in your research. Your report should be written in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources; and display accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
