GDP paper

The paper will be 6-7 pages in length, double spaced, #12 font and footnoted with a bibliography page. The paper will be an estimation of GDP for 2014

Students are expected to examine each component and sub-component of GDP and from current estimates ( which can be obtained through various news sources) formulate an estimate of GDP for the year.

What should be researched is as follows:

Consumption

Since this is the largest component of GDP, 66-70%, the bulk of the paper should focus on its subcomponent; durables, non-durables, and services. The best references will be daily news items that can be obtained on any number of internet wed sites, the most notable being CNN

Investment

The particular component, given Keynesian theory, is responsible in part for depressions and recessions. This includes residential and non-residential construction, inventory changes and capital equipment.

Government spending

An overview of federal government spending and taxation;  this component of GDP is usually exogenous and generally requires a 1 or 2 paragraph overview.

Net exports

Since this only represents approximately less than 1% of GDP, it will only require a 1-2 paragraph overview. It should include the most recent month’s trade deficit

All paper must:

-Have a title page

-Be double spaced with #12 font

-Stapled with no frayed edges, papers that are not stapled or in a plastic folder will not be accepted
