criminal justice class discussion post/chapter 2

Chapter 2 discussion

Assume you are a judge.  A defendant brought before you pleads guilty, saying: "I swear before God and my family that I did not commit the burglary with which I am charged.  But I am pleading guilty because I cannot post bail and have been in jail for a month now.  I am informed by a lawyer-friend that if I plead guilty, I can be free immediately because the maximum penalty for my offense is thirty days in jail. 

As the judge, will you accept the plea under these circumstances?  Be sure to explain your reasons why you would or would not accept the plea.
