In implementing an electronic health record (EHR), it is important to keep in mind the importance of acquiring a reliable clinical decision support system (CDSS). Studies have shown that CDSSes reduce medication errors, increase physician and patient satisfaction, decrease cost, and even decrease the rate of hospital-acquired (nosocomial) infections. However, recent studies have shown that widespread use of CDSSes is limited. Discuss the following:

• Discuss some of the many challenges that providers and organizations face when developing a CDSS.
• Discuss at least 2 current CDSSes, their capabilities, and how they are used to enhance health care.
